"Unfortunately it was a cold and wet day when we arrived. After climbing a very narrow winding staircase to our apartment - some 40 or so steps - it was disappointing to find that the rooms were very cold as no heating had been switched on in anticipation of our arrival. After switching on the underfloor heating it did begin to warm up, but to add to the frustration this did not appear to work in the main bedroom or the ‘en suite’. A free standing electric heater was provided but wasn’t easy...

"A warm welcome at this unique and very lovely hotel. Staff throughout our stay were friendly, professional and helpful. Room (La Rosa) was fabulous, quirky, comfortable with all necessary amenities and a view of the coastline to die for! Cocktails in the library were gorgeous as was the continental breakfast we had in the tea room. Close to town and the beach, I would stay here again and have no hesitation recommending to others."

The Windmill Inn - Whitby

"If your looking for peaceful quiet holiday place away from the crowds this place is perfect nothing but countryside around the Windmill Inn, country walks are just 50 yards away from the front door, the breakfast is amazing best I've had in a long time, the dinner menu is very good also & they sell Morretti my favourite drink at the bar, they gave a dart board & pool table inside the pub. All I could hear on a morning & evening was birds singing because the Shepherds Huts are surrounded by trees & away from the busy A171 main road. There's wi-fi inside the pub or around the back on picnic tables so perfect for my teenage boys which allowed me to have the t.v all to myself on an evening which had freeview channels. Coffee/ tea making facilities inside the huts & more spacious on the inside then they look from the outside. Walking distance to Aldi & a lovely bakery that serves lunchtime food. I parked up outside the pub & walked down to the A171 gor the X93 / X94 to take us into Whitby one day & Robin Hoods Bay the day after, so I didn't have the stress of finding a car park space."

The Granby Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"We stayed in the family room which was great. We like the fact that there was 2 separate double bedrooms there's no sitting area but it is a room and not an annexe so it wasn't expected. Both rooms did have separate tea trays so if 2 people wanted to save a bit of cash and share a room it's a great bargain. The shower was plenty big enough and powerful and the bathroom was a decent size too. The towels and bed linen are good quality with feather quilts and pillows and white cotton bedding. There is a fair few stairs to go up so might be unsuitable for people with walking issues. The staff are friendly and check in was so easy and we got an email the day before asking if we needed anything like a late check in or out which can be done at a small cost but as you don't have to checkout until 11 there's was no need for us to do so. The breakfast was not included but the pub downstairs starts serving brunch at 11 and has a great choice so if you want a lay in just go to that , they also serve food all day and it's a good price compared to some places in Whitby. The granby has always been a great pub so it's a bonus to be staying above and the location to other amenities is really good , all in all it was a good reasonably priced stay and we will definitely be back"
