Arès is a scenic beachside resort town with an extensive array of camping options and picnic areas. Its picturesque beaches and nature reserves make it a popular coastal destination for visitors and locals from nearby Bordeaux. While visiting Arès, stroll along the northern shore of Arcachon Bay and take in the natural beauty around the town.

At the heart of the area lies Arès Beach, whose pier stretches out into the sea and provides stunning views of the varied coastline. The beach consists of sandy stretches, patches of grass and wet marsh-like terrain at low tide. Admire the impressive cylindrical tower, where the strand meets Beach Avenue connecting the town center to the coast.

Head south through the dense woodland to reach the Conche de Saint Brice, which has its own sandy beach and pier. Enjoy a picnic in the designated area and choose from the many camping sites around the town, including Camping les Goëlands, Pasteur Vacances and Camping les Abberts.

From the tourism office you can take guided tours of the area’s stunning terrain. Swim in the saltwater lagoons along the nature reserve on Arès’ western border.

Back in the town center, visit the shops and restaurants around the Place de l’Église. From its core rises the 19th-century Église Saint Vincent de Paul. Enter to study its neo-medieval and Romanesque touches and admire the glorious stained-glass windows portraying the Nativity, the Crucifixion and other biblical scenes.

The town overlooks Arcachon Bay and the Bay of Biscay in the southwestern part of France. Arrive at the Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport and drive west for 26 miles (42 kilometers) to get here in about 40 minutes. While in this scenic region, stop off at resort towns such as La Rochelle, Arcachon and Biscarrosse.
