The community has put in lots of time and effort to conserve the natural environment at Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. Take some time out to enjoy this green space.

This nature reserve is often on the itineraries of travelers to Virginia. But Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge isn't the area's only highlight. Assateague Lighthouse, Maui Jack's Waterpark, and Robert N. Reed Downtown Waterfront Park are some other recommended attractions close by.

You will have to pay to go to the horse beach across the bridge. It really is beautiful over there, and the horses line the road

I saw photos and videos of the beach online before my trip..I am an avid horse lover..The videos show horses all around on the beach with the people..however..both times I went to the beach..there was not a horse in sight..People on the beach those days said when I asked about the horses replied "It's either hit or miss"..I was totally disappointed..the horses on the beach as advertised on their website was the reason I went there.. I drove through the "Park"..went around the "loop" also..only wildlife I saw was a couple of heron birds perched on trees..

$20 to enter refuge but ticket good for all week.  Beautiful beach and view.  Take your own food if going to beach; cannot buy food there.  Take a boat trip to see the ponies.  Refuge has tour bus once daily but fills quickly.
