We received the best breakfast every morning, it was the best we ever had. We also had dinner there 1 night, and it was such an experience. "Easy to park. Wife would give it 4 stars. 6 yr old would give 5 stars for the rock climbing wall. No lift for 2nd floor rooms and would have life more space to open suitcases but overall nice place to stay."

"Richmond Hotel Matsumoto was a wonderful surprise. As a budget-friendly business hotel, we weren’t expecting much—but it turned out to be far nicer than anticipated. The room was spotlessly clean, with a comfortable queen bed and a divan-style sofa that made for a perfect little reading nook. The breakfast buffet was simple but satisfying, with enough variety to suit even a finicky Western palate. Its location is excellent—convenient to the train station, restaurants, and shopping—making it an easy base for exploring. Matsumoto itself is a lovely city that feels a bit under the radar for international travellers, yet it offers so much charm. It’s also an ideal staging point for trips into the Japanese Alps or the Kiso Valley. All in all, a great option if you’re looking for something budget-friendly without feeling bare bones."

"Staff were courteous. Bed and especially pillows were not comfortable. Pillow felt like I rested my head on a backpack full of books although I think they advertised that you could ask for different pillows. Window shade did not do a good job of blocking out light from train station. Room was clean. Overall I thought it was overpriced compared to what I paid for other hotels in Japan."
