The Palmer River lies almost directly west and inland to Cape Tribulation. The river flooded in the aftermath of a severe cyclone in late March. Water flowed over the bridge and debris was visible the bridge and along the river banks. One can stay overnight at the Palmer River Roadhouse and there is a range of accomodation available to suit most travellers. Beautiful pool and tropical setting. Bar and restaurant are in a building separate of the rooms. Everyone on staff was nice and helpful. They have 2 bedroom apartments. Some for families and others for groups without children. The family units are on the first floor and face the streets and are more utilitarian (easier to clean and less to break or mess up). The ones on the second floor are nicer. Cooktown is small but interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would have stayed much longer if we'd had the chance. As expected, this place does have some unique quirks but it's in the tropics and it's humid, so expect the heat and moisture to take a toll on things. If you let them know there's a problem with your room they'll do their best to adress it. This place is a lot like a small Worldmark or Wyndham property."
