Wonderful Getaway
After reading some of the reviews I'll admit I was a little worried, but after staying the weekend I think a lot of these folks may have never stepped foot out of the city before! This was a charming cabin; clean and fully stocked with necessities (besides food, obviously). If you're looking for glitz and glamour, a cabin getaway in the middle of the woods is not for you. Was impressed that everything was solar powered! Was a little bit disappointed that the swimming hole was unusable, as the rocks/floor were covered in dead tadpoles and muck, but with the river just down the hill and everything else this property had to offer it really wasn't an issue. We are sad to leave but had the most wonderful time. We would definitely be down to come back again.

Such potential
Loon Lodge has great potential but unfortunately it's not being cared for or managed properly. There needs to be a dehumidifier on the lowest level- it is damp, dark (no overhead lights), and it doesn't smell so great. There was also a bedside floor lamp that wasn't working properly and upon further inspection we discovered that the cord was partially severed. We unplugged it immediately and messaged the owners when we got to a place where we had signal. Someone came the next day right before noon with a new lamp and a cord for the DVD player which was not hooked up upon our arrival. The furniture in the living room is most uncomfortable and the kitchen is sparcely furnished... Not even a toaster! We did enjoy our stay here, but it should've been much more comfortable and well appointed.

Great outdoor atmosphere, property lacks TLC
Our family stayed for a week at this property. We loved the surroundings and outdoor aspect. Secluded, quiet, surrounded by forest, and quite beautiful. The river access is fantastic with a well maintained lawn and a small sandy beach area. The kids loved fishing from the dock and caught fish all day, every day. The swimming hole is not deep enough to swim in as it’s only about 3ft deep in the deepest area. We enjoyed watching the turtles swim around in it though. The cabin itself lacked TLC. The garbage/recycling bin outside was overflowing with trash so we had to take our trash to the neighboring unit all week which wasn’t a big deal, just a bit inconvenient. The upper deck has some boards that aren’t even that the kids seemed to trip on. The cleaning crew was still in the unit 30 minutes after our check-in time and didn’t clean the floors. There was dog food on the floor and downstairs smelt of wet dog. Overall, we had a great time.

Beautiful property. Dangerous driveway!
Beautiful location and very relaxing but the weather created an unsafe situation and the property managed did not help with clearing the ice. We were unable to leave the property all day Saturday and spent a lot of time and energy chipping ice and shoveling gravel in order to depart at our expected time.

ATV heaven
Start morning with a coffee Overlooking heaven with the sounds of the river running. A hike through scenery that is almost impossible to find. Then hop on the ATV to access the trails with a 5 minute drive down the scenic road. Clean, smelled normal, The only suggestion would be if you want to cook you may want to bring an extra pan. Would love to return in the summer and experience all the other things that it has to off

Has a lot of potential
When we arrived we were surprised to learn there is a cabin in the same lot and the guests share the fire pit and pond. I wish this was mentioned in the advertisement. The cabin itself has so much quirk and is old, exactly up our alley; however, it could definitely use some attention to details and updates. The cabin itself is much smaller than depicted in the advertisement. The deck is molded and rotten in areas, is not nice and stained like in the pictures. The patio furniture is ripped and broken. There is only one hammock, which was a disappointment as my wife and I were planning on spending lots of time there. The furniture in the advertisement is not the same as what is actually in the house. The free wifi does not work. Which is totally understandable if the advertisement would have mentioned it as the cabin is very secluded. However we were planning on cuddling and watching movies after our long hikes and adventures all day. We had brought our own smart TV to catch up on some movies as we never get the chance to when we're home with our kids. There is a very small box TV with VHS which is nice but the furniture is not suitable to get comfortable and actually watch. This isn't the biggest deal, because we enjoyed the nature aspect but it would be nice to have known prior to arriving. There is a sign stating the dishes are not sanitized so you have to do it yourself which is fine however the dish soap available has mold and grime on it and the sponge is gross. The fridge was not cleaned out. The bathroom had left over soap and body wash from a previous renter. Obviously not cleaned. The basement smelled musty and moldy. You are required to buy firewood which to us was surprising for the amount of $$ we paid. We didn't get to utilize the firepit because the other renters were. Bummer. No trampoline. We were planning on sleeping out there. Now let's get to the good... The hikes are awesome. The best were Butler Rock, Quartz Hill, Mountain Lookout Tower. Mulligans Sports Bar has awesome drinks and food - great wings. I feel like if the owner spent more time on the little details, it would make a huge difference. Even if they charged a little more to offer a new sponge, a new soap, comfy couch, make it more "homey".. We did read that they had tiki torches lit upon arrival for other guests and paid more attention to details...not sure if we just had bad luck or what. We ended up leaving a night early because of it.

Pictures don't do this place justice!
We rented this cabin for Labor Day Weekend with friends and wow we were so surprised at what this place had to offer. Kayaking/tubing and fishing, swimming in the pond, relaxing on the deck, campfire by the river, etc. Comfortable beds, full kitchen, cozy fireplaces. We had so much fun but there is one thing I wish I was more informed about... there is another similar cabin about 500 feet from you. You SHARE ALL OUTSIDE SPACE. We had a more rowdy group so I'm thankful the family that stayed close were super friendly if not, it would've ruined our stay. We will be booking this again next year, but we will also be renting out the cabin next to us so we can enjoy the full property to ourselves. I would recommend this!

Enjoyable Time & Wonderful Memories
The "Homestead" cabin was perfect in size and comfort. We spent most of the days outside enjoying the scenery, the canoe, the river, the trails and the relaxing feeling of "being away from it all". That was a welcome feeling. The cabin is cozy and the deck is ample for family dinners outside. There is a nice grocery store for fresh meats and veggies, coffee and dairy. WE will definitely be back again to enjoy such a relaxing place. Thank you. Aldred & Nicole

Amazing getaway
We had a great time on our mini vacation. The fish were biting, the swimming hole was perfect temperature, the frogs and tadpoles were awesome. There wasn’t a trampoline, which we were disappointed about because it’s one of the reasons we rented the place. But we were busy with exploring and catching fish. Even though it rained one afternoon, there was still plenty to do. Thanks for having a variety of movies AND including kid friendly ones.

Great getaway
The cabin was just as it was pictured. There are two bedrooms downstairs and the upstairs has the bathroom, kitchen and one bedroom. It was small but the perfect size for the 6 of us. The stairs were tiring for me but it was worth it. We enjoyed a relaxing getaway and the weather was perfect. The lake was great and you can stand in the water at the end of the dock. The upper deck was perfect, it had lights on the rails so it was lit up at night. The outside shower was really great! It has 4 shower heads and was great to use after being in the lake. I would recommend that this be utilized often. We would recommend going to the half way bar north of the property. They have really good pizza. Shannon and Tracy will take care of you and provide you with great places to see in the town of Lakewood. The sweet shop is there and man does it have so much to offer. You could spend a whole day in there. They have amazing fudge!! Do NOT swim in the man made lagoon as there is a huge snapping turtle that has taken up residence!! We got some cool pictures. The cabin n txt door is close. Thankfully the residents were gone most of the day so we had the whole property to ourselves. Seriously loved our stay it’s worth the drive!

Pleasantly Surprised
We were a bit concerned coming here after reading some of the other reviews. After spending the weekend, we were pleasantly surprised. We did not experience any of the bad smells that others did and everything was clean. The location is ideal with gorgeous views and plenty of outdoor activities nearby and onsite. There is another house right beside you and many of the outdoor amenities are shared, so it can be awkward at times if the other party stakes their claim at the bonfire. The kitchen is indeed small and the stove can barely fit a cast iron skillet, but it was enough for us. Hot tip: bring your own small baking sheet. There were quite a few tadpoles, frogs, and broad winged damselflies in the pond and on the river. We enjoyed falling asleep in the hammocks or in the loft with the window open to the sound of rushing water and the occasional “ribbit”. Overall, we would absolutely go back and I’d recommend this house to any couple.

We had a great stay at Homestead. The location is amazing. While it was too cold to swim, our kids had fun exploring the property. We took the canoe and kayak out on the river and spotted some animals. The beds were comfortable and the cabin was big enough for the five of us to spread out, though it was a challenge getting all of us at the kitchen table. I would definitely like to return.

Layout of rental needs improvement
While the location was nice and peaceful, definitely off the beaten path. The rental itself was quite small. Yes there is plenty of sleeping place but there is absolutely no room for that many people to actually be inside. One loveseat and one chair in the "living room " was cramped for just my husband and I. The water in the shower never got more than lukewarm. That's not enough in the winter. Bugs all over in the kitchen area, the stove was full of grease and dust from, I'm assuming, previous renters, bugs in the dishes. Now, I grew up in the sticks, literally but I still appreciate cleanliness.

A complete disappointment aside from the location.
The only things keeping this cabin from being 1 or 2 out of 5 stars on VRBO are the grounds and location. The grounds are beautiful, the river is beautiful, and the forest paths are amazing. It is 100% a great location, but that is where it ends. Most people have numerous complaints in their reviews, but they still end up giving a better rating because they're very happy with the outdoors portion of their stay. I'm here to tell you that, unless you're spending ALL of your time outside, you are going to be EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with your stay. I don't think I have ever left a bad review up until this point, and I'm going to keep it a short as possible. The smell inside the cabin was so strong it made me nauseous and gave me a headache. The kids had a hard time with the smell, too. The wood burning stove had a crack in the glass leaving me up most of the night checking on it because I was scared it was going to break and start the cabin on fire, so I slept with the fire extinguisher by my bed. The living room, although cozy, had THREE spots to sit in a six person cabin. A two person couch and a chair. It is very cramped and will not fit more than those three people. The bathroom drawers were filthy, so we were unable to use them for our hygiene, and when I went to unwrap the paper around a new roll of toilet paper MOUSE TURDS FLUNG ALL OVER ME!! The kitchen is poorly stocked, with a dinky coffee pot, no toaster, no microwave, barely any cooking utensils, and one baking sheet that doesn't fit in the tiny oven. The cupboards were so filthy that I rewashed all of the dishes I needed to use, and kept them out of the cupboards so they wouldn't have to touch the filth inside of them. The freezer was also dirty, and there was one rickety little table with 3 chairs. The lights went out twice on our second night there, the second time I had to call the manager because they didn't come back on. I was in the middle of cooking for us, and it was just me and 3 teenage girls out in that cabin in the middle of the woods in pitch black darkness. It was extremely scary for all of us, and took over an hour to get the lights working again. I don't know what else to say besides the fact that the manager did help as best he could, and the owners of this place definitely lost a repeat guest. It is unfortunate that such a beautiful place is being run so poorly, and their guests' needs and comforts are not being taken into consideration in any way.

Beautiful location, gross cabin
I wanted to love this place. The seclusion, the property, and the river were all phenomenally beautiful. The cabin was not. It was quaint, and rustic, and had so much potential, but it smelled like something was rotting in the walls. This clearly was a long-term problem, as there were 1-4 air fresheners in every single room. It was intolerable. We left a night early because we couldn’t handle the odor.
