I always say home is where the heart is and for my it is going back to my country of Guatemala. Returning and being able to hike this Volcano meant the world to me. After waking up during Alpine hours and being sick for a few weeks this may have felt like the hardest thing I had to do then but when I reached the top, every ounce of pain and worries flushed away as I soaked in the sunrise view and heard the roars of Fuego Volcano right next to me. A few months later Fuego Volcano erupted and impacted the lives of many. My heart broke and could only imagine what they went through including my amazing guide that I had for that day. Fortunately my family and the surrounding community found ways to help each other out and while not everything was recovered, they have begun restoring as much as they could. I can’t wait to go back as the city of Antigua always holds a place in my heart.
