Weekend getaways in York

The Monk Bridge House is an amazing treasure in a perfect location for exploring York. The owners are attentive and the service is exemplary. Definitely worth a visit.

The staff and grounds were amazing. Loved the garden and the character of Gray’s Court. The bed and mattress in our room are in need of an upgrade as the mattress sagged a bit and the bed frame croaked with every motion.

Suite 1 was absolutely beautiful!

hotel/bed and breakfast has nice friendly atmosphere, excellent breakfast, and is in walking distance of old town York. Only issue is limited parking in back, but they managed somehow by having cars that were leaving earlier closest to exit path. Helpful with things like where to get laundry done, where to go for meals, and unusual sites in old town that we would have never thought of. Will definitely stay there again.

We really enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect for York. Very walkable. Photos are accurate. I would stay here again if I was back in the area.

I love it when something exceeds our expectations, and this stay did. Awesome hosts, outstanding dinner and a huge breakfast (Make sure you book a dinner time before you go. They are very busy and there is nowhere else around to eat). Highly recommend.

10/10 for overall quality, attention to detail, comfort, attentiveness, full English breakfast and more. One tiny niggle - I suspect that the owner's suite was above my room and footsteps above were clearly audible (early and late only). I would strongly recommend this hotel and will stay there again.

This property was so lovely. It was beautifully decorated and super comfortable. The attention to detail in every little bit of our stay (including the chocolate eggs left in our room when we stayed at Easter) was impressive and we felt welcomed and well-cared for by our hosts. Breakfast was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend staying here if you are in the area!

The property was located in a very nice little city outside of Edinburgh. It was only a short walk to the train to Edinburgh. Our host was very informative about things to do and see. The property was well maintained and very clean. I will stay there again if I ever get back to Edinburgh. A car is not necessary, which was wonderful. As an American who is not used to left hand driving on narrow lanes, I was happy to keep my rental car parked until we left for England.

While planning our trip to the UK, my daughter and I wanted to either stay at a Manor house or Castle. Middlethorpe Hall was the perfect choice. It is several miles outside York, but less than 10 minutes by uber or taxi. The staff was gracious and solicitous. We arrived just in time for tea. The food was fantastic, generous, and the location in the the ball room facing the beautiful green lawn was exactly what we had hoped for. Our room was not in the main house, but in another building...

The owners were wonderful and I can’t say enough good things about the property. Immaculate, with lots of character and charm but modernized just enough with all the comforts. Get the full English breakfast, you won’t regret it! Very convenient for York city center and the Uni
