"In a week of rain we managed to find many dry days. The location of the village was outstanding with views of the loch and an abundance of birdlife ( I counted 40 species in the area in the week). Melfort has great access to the isles through Oban and the coastline along the A 816 offers opportunities for gardens (Arduaine) and loch views from Ardfern. "We stayed 1 night at portavadie hotel in a standard lodge room. It was spacious and clean with the bonus of a mini fridge & pint of milk which is a nice touch. It surprised me how big the complex . You can either walk or drive to the leisure facilities as its not in the same building as reception & restaurant. The restaurant food is good & the staff very pleasant. Especially Debbie who served us at breakfast. I would definitely stay here again"

"Me and my family such a relaxing few days away together. The Lodge was exactly as described and in the perfect little spot. We enjoyed walks to the Loch and the forest near by. The Lodge was so cosy and we enjoyed spending time indoors playing games. Just wish we had longer!"

"Loved the comfy, clean cabin which was surrounded by a spacious garden with lovely plants. Gregor encouraged us to help ourselves to any fruit on the bushes and peas which were growing at the time. We enjoyed sitting round the huge outdoor fire bowl at night, barbecuing, followed by a fire (the Wild Rowan shop sold bags of logs).The deck area was huge and had plenty of outdoor furniture and a view of the loch. There were steps down to the beach directly across from the cabin and we swam in the loch most days. We will be back and I would recommend cabin 16 Duart for a holiday or short break at any time of the year."

"It was a little difficult to find and was not close to any restaurants etc. However, we enjoyed our stay. There were a lot of stairs if you have heavy luggage. The staff person who greeted us was a little grumpy, but the rest of the staff was excellent. Food was amazing. Bed was comfortable and room was spacious and clean. I would recommend to others."

Free parking is available all along the street; all local amenities are easily accessible on foot. The internal fabric of the hotel is rather tired and worn, and would benefit from some refurbishment; fixtures and fittings show some - largely cosmetic - wear and tear which might be better maintained. This would make it more aesthetically attractive."
