Nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills, this Gold Rush town offers charming antique shops and access to Apple Hill's seasonal fruit farms. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore nearby Sly Park Recreation Area for fishing, hiking trails, and refreshing swims in Jenkinson Lake.

Every summer for the past 7 years close to our Anniversary, Lynn and I stay an extended weekend in the Placerville, California area located in the Sierra foothills. This year we stayed in the nearby Apple Hill. Apple Hill is renowned for its orchards, wineries, and farms. Although each farm has something different to offer, we enjoy the apple donuts and pies. Apple wines and beer are also available for tasting. This photo is on the farm we stayed this weekend. The farm grows Christmas Trees and has a wedding venue at this pond.

During this month, the weather is generally mild, with temperatures ranging from the mid-50s to low 70s Fahrenheit, making it a comfortable time for hiking. This pleasant climate allows travelers to enjoy the stunning landscapes and charming villages along the route without the extreme heat often experienced in the summer months.

This is when many pilgrims embark on their journey, creating a vibrant atmosphere along the trails. For those who appreciate attentive service, many accommodations and local eateries are well-prepared for the influx of visitors, ensuring a seamless experience as you traverse the historic paths.

September is particularly appealing for couples and solo travelers, as the trails are less crowded compared to the earlier summer months, allowing for a more personal and reflective experience. The harvest season also adds to the charm, with local markets brimming with fresh produce and regional delicacies, great for those looking to indulge in authentic culinary experiences.

If you're considering a more budget-friendly option, late October can also be a good choice. While temperatures may dip slightly, the beautiful fall foliage and a quieter atmosphere can enhance your journey, providing a unique perspective on the Camino.
