Lake Chatuge in Hiawassee, GA taken from the balcony at Lake Chatuge Lodge.

Last night I was able to set up my star tracker and mount up my camera to capture the Orion Nebula. This is the first time I have even attempted something like this. Before I have only used my tracker for wide landscape shots.

The three stars on the left are Orion's belt. The Nebula is in the middle of Orion's scabbard. The nebula is estimated to be 24 light years across. It has a mass of about 2,000 times that of the Sun.

You can actually see Orion's nebula with the naked eye, that is why the scabbard looks fuzzy. You can also see this with just a pair of binoculars, this image was taken at 200 mm, so not too much zoom.

"Cozy and clean. Scenery is beautiful with access to the lake. Great fishing spot. Caught lots of fish. Quiet, relaxing and calm waters. Would definitely visit again. Shannon was great!!!"
