Baker's Cottage - Relax in this quiet mountain cottage by the creek.

Whether you are looking for a couples' get-a-way or a place for the family to stay, Baker's Cottage is the perfect place to kick back and take a break from the hustle and bustle of life. We have a covered front porch for you to sit and relax while you enjoy your morning coffee. The sunroom and back deck offer a nice view of the spacious backyard and where you can listen to the peaceful sounds from the babbling creek. The backyard and creek are a great place to take a stroll, play games, cool off in the water, catch fireflies, or roast marshmallows while gathered around the fire. A gazebo overlooks the creek and cottage offering a place to play games or just sit and relax. The cottage is just a short 2 minute walk from the New River and only a 15 minute drive to the town of West Jefferson where you can find food, shopping, Mt. Jefferson State Park, and Ashe County Cheese. Various river outfitters are close by (10-15 minutes away) where you can rent tubes, canoes, or kayaks. Looking for a day trip during your stay: Grayson Highlands Park, Virginia Creeper Trail, Appalachian State University, Stone Mountain State Park, Tweetsie Railroad, and various ski resorts are all less than an hour away.
The original portion of Baker's Cottage was built in 1935. It has unique characteristics that make it a one of a kind. Most of the ceilings in the house are low, between 6'10" and 7' high. Taller individuals may need to duck when walking through doorways. Please note because of it’s size our cottage doesn’t have a dishwasher or washer & dryer.

Baker’s cottage is lovely, quiet, clean and out of the way but close enough to necessities. We have enjoyed our stays there & hope to do so again. Hosts are very kind & quick to respond to questions.

Best VRBO stay we've had in the area!

Perfect. Fresh, beautiful, and a location to realllllly relax in. The yard with a stream, places to kick back and listen to the birds and water. All our waking indoor time was spent in the sunroom.. it is so sweet. Can't wait to go back! And the hosts are friendly, helpful, but not around otherwise.

Quiet Hideaway

Quaint little cabin. Nicely appointed. Quiet surroundings save for the creek that runs through the property, and that was a real cool plus. Enjoyed our stay.

Great hosts!

The cottage is extremely well-equipped and the hosts were amazing! I would say that the mattresses are a bit on the firm side and the bed area by the porch stays pretty bright late - but those are matters of personal preference and I just mention them in case they’re deal-breakers for anyone. I would love to spend a few weeks in the fall just relaxing in that sunroom and having campfires in the amazing outdoor area! Amazing place.

Christmas at the Cottage

Wow, just Wow! My family wanted a mountain getaway to spend some time together for Christmas, and this was the perfect place. When we walked in the door it was an overwhelming feeling of ‘going home’. It was warm, tastefully decorated in general and for the holidays, and full of Christmas spirit. The hosts thought of every detail, including our favorite pastries and treats for our fur babies. They loved the outdoor area and running along the creek, and the sunroom is the ideal spot to unwind and enjoy nature. The cottage was immaculate and the hosts are great folks that have made this an awesome place to vacation.

A quiet, relaxing mountain getaway

If you’re seeking some peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of life, this is the place! As we approached the cabin, we saw the welcoming seasonal gourds and pumpkins and the pillows on the front entry porch, The cabin is beautifully decorated and all you will hear is the birds chirping and the sound of water trickling in the creek in the backyard. There are so many spots to relax in, in the covered deck (complete with rockers), in the backyard by the firepit (we made s’mores!) or the screened sunporch. All the modern amenities are there and if you play it smart, as we did, and shopped for our stay at Ingles, then you don’t have to leave to buy food. We can’t wait to return and appreciate all this cabin has to offer.

Short but Sweet

My husband, son, and I stayed for a few days Easter weekend. We are familiar with the area and always enjoy going into West Jefferson and exploring at the New River State Park (search for the US 221 entrance to find the real park). We were greeted at this adorable cabin with some goodies for ourselves and for our dog, that was an extra nice touch! The cabin was very clean and cozy. Our favorite parts were the creek, the sunroom, and the fire pit. We will definitely look at renting this space again! (To our hosts, we found at least 2 great places to hang a hammock near the creek that would be an added bonus to all of the sweet amenities! wink, wink)

Great hideway

My wife and I were looking for a quick getaway to have some time to decompress from several stresses happening in our lives during the past two months. This was a perfect solution for us. The cabin was built in 1935 and is still in the family. There is a creek that runs directly behind the cabin and one night we sat out on the back deck and listened to the creek. Another night we sat on the covered front porch and listened to the rain. The cabin was very quiet and relaxing. Tonya was extremely extremely accommodating and left us a some cinnamon bites us at check in. She also had left some dog treats for Brian, which he loved. Overall this was exactly what we needed and Tonya was a great host. I would highly recommend the Baker Cabin to anyone.

So cute and right on a creek.

We arrived at night and were not able to see the creek until we woke up the next morning. It's so close to the house and you can hear it with the kitchen window open. When we arrived, cookies and snacks were waiting for us and treats for the dog! The heat was on when we got there, which is a really nice touch as well. We are hot natured anyway, but it was so much nicer to come into a warm place than to walk into a cold place. We weren't really going to use the kitchen, so I didn't really care what it looked like, but the pictures online do not show how cute it actually is. There is an antique Hoosier cabinet and a lot of vintage enamel cookware on display and everything is red and white. There is even a vintage replica fridge in the kitchen. I almost didn't book this because there were no king size beds, which there would be space for in one of the rooms. But I'm glad I did because we were very comfortable anyway and I'm sure that my husband enjoyed his peace while I slept with all the children. Haha. The sun room is gorgeous. The building has so much charm and we will be back if we need to vacate the in-laws' house again. :)

Baker's Cottage is cozy and cute. Bathroom and kitchen seemed to have been updated lately. The small creek is lovely as is the side yard. The ceilings are attractive but low. I'm 5'9" and I could touch all the ceilings. I think a tall person wouldn't be comfortable here. The home smelled perfumey which would be a plus for some and a negative for others.

GORGEOUS and so serene! This place is a gem! Very clean on the inside with nice upgrades. So enjoyed the creek that runs on the property along with the view of the backyard. The kitchen had everything you needed and we enjoyed the generous dog treats and sweets left for us by the owner. Very nice added touch! If you want peace, quite and serenity, this is the place for you. We will definitely be back!

Perfect Getaway

This is the perfect place for a getaway where you just want to relax and unwind. Once you hear that creek, relaxation kicks in. There are so many places to sit outside and inside to read a good book or just sit and enjoy the sounds and beauty of nature.
