Scenic parks and gardens complement the idyllic climate in the heart of the City of Eternal Spring, near the Tepozteco mountains.

With its array of historic, cultural and political attractions, Central Cuernavaca is the historic district of the capital of the state of Morelos. All types of performers and entertainers put on shows around the main square, making the area popular with locals and vacationers. Visit Central Cuernavaca to watch dancers and acrobats while sitting at a café or bar in this lively central district.

Gather with friends in the Plaza de Armas, the city’s main square. Take photos of your family beside the colorful letters spelling out Cuernavaca. Skirting the square are some of the city’s most important buildings. Wander through the illuminated colonnade of the Palacio de Gobierno. Inside the palace study murals by Mexican artist Diego Rivera.

Marking the northern side of the square is the Jardín Juárez. Watch live music in the elegant bandstand, which was designed by architect Gustave Eiffel. Relax and enjoy sandwiches and juices from the market stalls. Get balloons and ice cream for your little ones.

Walk west for a couple of minutes to reach the Museum of the City of Cuernavaca, which lies in a gorgeous colonial building. Learn about the region’s social and natural history from the exhibits and stroll through the classic courtyard. Next door are the picturesque 18th-century Borda Gardens. Enjoy the serenity near the pond and fountain and explore the mansion where Emperor Maximilian and Empress Carlotta entertained guests in the 1800s. Gaze up at the bell tower of the adjacent Cuernavaca Cathedral, built in the 1500s.

Note that the city is known as the City of Eternal Spring for its pleasant climate. Central Cuernavaca is in the southwestern part of the city, between the districts of Carolina and San Anton. Travel here by taxi from Cuauhnahuac to arrive in about 10 minutes. Make sure to see other highlights in the city, such as Chapultepec Ecological Park, El Castillo and Parque Ecológico San Miguel Acapantzingo.
