Hop out of bed and step onto the beach, have a quick dip in the waves and walk back up the hill in under 5 min. for a rinse under the outside shower with a view. A perfect start to the day.
Dry your hair in the sun while you enjoy the best view over Oruawharo Medlands and the ocean beyond from elevated XSPOT Medlands: lounge/kitchen and both bedrooms all have sea views.
Explore the island from this central location, walks, beaches, galleries and the stars at night.
XSPOT Medlands is a new build, finished late in 2023. The compact and clean architectural design enables you to concentrate on your holidays. Decks for sun in front and shade in the rear are perfect for sunny days, while the sea breeze and longer eves will keep the house cool.
Once you have explored the island, put your feet up and grab a book or gaze out over the bay, watching the surf break all along the shore or a lone hiker on the beach in the distance. Book shelves have binoculars for bird spotting and landscape admiration, and a limited number of books and games for off screen time.
As Aotea Great Barrier Island is off grid, all houses here generate their own power. XSPOT Medlands has its own modern power system. Sufficient for charging phones and laptops and using lights at night.
XSPOT has Starlink internet, the best internet on the island, should you be looking for a working holiday, or just like to remain connected to the rest of the world.
Water is caught of the roof and stored in tanks below and above the house. We will let you know on arrival if you should use it sparingly. A washing machine for cold short daytime washes ;-) also makes this house suitable for longer stays.
The house is conveniently located at Medlands Beach, half way between Tryphena and Claris, Great Barrier Island's busiest settlements. It's 5 min. walk to the beach, or less than a minute by car.
It's an easy but windy 10 min. drive over the hill to shop for your groceries or to eat out in Tryphena or Claris and discover the many walking tracks the island has to offer. The Kowhai Track and Station Rock Track are only 15 min. walk away, or link them up with the road right out front. Or... discover some of the stunning and solitary beaches of Aotea.
And, did you know that the island is a Dark Sky Sanctuary? Due to lack of light pollution, Aotea offers some of the best skies you will ever encounter. Stargazing tours by the Good Heavens team take place just down the road, on top of a sand dune along Medlands beach. Or they can come to you if you prefer a private experience.
After a day full of active or relaxed relaxation, comfortable beds with new mattresses and crisp linen should ensure a solid nights' sleep. Wake up energised and rearing to go for another day of island adventure.
Hot pools, water falls, quirky galleries, e-scooter rides, mermaid pools, windy canyons and a plethora of walking tracks. We're happy to help with your selection and will meet you on arrival if we can.
Destination information is available at the property.
