I am writing about my experience at the Jack London Inn Oakland, CA. I sometimes wonder what to write about when there is so much to state. First, the front desk employee was professional and polite. Second, checking-in was smooth and made me feel comfortable, welcomed, and appreciated. Finally, this is my 5th time staying here and I have to say, if one is considering where to relax, reenergize , or just let your self breathe. Jack London Inn is the place. Near iconic eateries (Everett & Jones BBQ, Scott’s Seafood and Jack London Square) you will be pleasantly surprised by how much fun one can have.

It’s a nice motel in the heart of Oakland. You get what you pay for. Staff was super nice, rooms were clean, and you can’t beat the location. Perfect for a weekend stay. Super safe parking.

When I got there the lady at the front desk (Beatrice) was the best. I slept so good . The beds where soft but firm the trains that go by is so pleasant . As a young boy I used to fantasize I was a train operator. That’s what the train horn did for me. It brought me back to my childhood. They have complimentary breakfast which I needed . It’s not fancy but it’s healthy and so gracious in given time the customers a sure time to eat. So if you are budgeting or spending money like it’s nothing …this business has my support and I will be back . Thank you Jack London Inn

It was okay for the price but it wasn’t as pristine looking as the pictures. Marijuana & beer smells in the hall. Faint smell of bug spray in the room. A couple of cockroaches called it home. We got 2 rooms because we had 5 adults in our party. I think my husband’s room was a lot better than me and my son’s room.

The property wasn't much to look at outside. The inside was an average hotel. The room was clean, but, poorly maintained. The cleaning solution used to mop the floors made the floor sticky. The mattress was to springy, but, the pillows were perfect. Direct-TV, watched TV all night. Breakfast was minimal, not very many choices. Good location, close to many restaurants and activities, all walking distance. Staff was helpful, great in all ways and very friendly. Other than the train sounds, which I enjoyed, peaceful stay.

Pros: Rooms are spacious but and beds are comfortable. Free parking and close to the city. Very close to the jack London square. Cons: Building structure is old. The room I stayed had cracks on the ceiling and floors were all scratched. Restrooms are not well constructed. Shower water spreads on the Vinay flooring. Restroom door makes loud noise while opening. Main door has gaps and the corridors get too noisy in the night. There is a train track literally attached to the hotel causing loud noises very frequently in the day time. Windows open fully and is a danger to the kids as there can be accidental fall.

Everything was great. The rooms were clean and the a/c actually worked this time. My ONLY issue was the blind strands of hair on the sheets. Had two beds so I was fine.

My stay here was good. Great location and the free parking was a nice touch. I wish they would invest some money into revamping the hotel. The hallways smell like cigarettes, everything needs a paint job. The bed frame was broken. Everything just feels really old and run down. It’s a shame because it’s in such a great location, wish for better for your place. Staff was great though.

What I’m going to write about is the honest truth. I know travelers write great positive reviews because that’s what they experienced. I had issues with checking in to the Jack London Inn. My cards when no used them declined instantly. I ran it again, and the same thing happened. I don’t know why but I suspect the lady hit the credit button instead of the debit card and that’s what made it decline. That’s my guess but my overall experience was safe, clean , and and friendly staff . The morning breakfast is simple (fruit, cereal , orange juice, waffles , and coffee. Something to get you up and going in the morning. I will be back and tell your fr to book rooms it’s in Jack London Square across from Scott’s Seafood Restaurant. Walking distance from 12th st. BART

The hotel has spiders and bugs. Although I can’t complain about the staff because they were actually helpful and kind. But the owner of the building should really consider renovating it. That will be no more than $50 a night. Honestly, I woke up in a roach was on the other bed dead!

The staff was lovely. That’s the only positive thing that I can say. Dirty. A/C broken, but they gave me a box fan to blow the stuffy air around. The room was just falling apart and beaten down….microwave cord didn’t reach an outlet… someone had taken the hdmi cable to tv had no input (they found me one!)… beds were concave. Just laughable . After I almost cried.

It was a walkable area and I found it was easy to figure out how to use the bus and transit system! A few bars and restaurants near by in a 10 min walking distance down Broadway. Trips into the city of San Francisco was as easy as taking the BART station nearby! Save your money and time and take advantage of the all day pass and public transit in the city

the newly remodeled rooms don’t have access to the ac and you can’t open windows and it was 70 outside but felt like 90 in the room for no reason. also the mini fridge didn’t have a freezer tray. breakfast was lacking. staff was nice.

A great location with access to food and entertainment venues in the vicinity. My room was large with comfortable bed and good clean linens. Elevator is old but functions well. Basic breakfast options, but adequate to start my day. I was using public transit which is readily available in the area. Therefore I did not use the parking garage, it seemed adequate and convenient to the hotel entrance. I spent 2 nights and would stay here again.
