My family and I stayed at RIU Palace Paradise Island for 6 days while celebrating my mother's 60th birthday, and overall we had a wonderful experience.
Check-in was quick and seamless. One thing to note is that if you book through a third-party website rather than directly with the hotel, airport shuttle service is not included.
Before arriving, I had read several reviews criticizing the condition of the rooms, so I was pleasantly surprised. Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. There were signs of normal wear and tear that could use some attention, but nothing that negatively impacted our stay. One minor inconvenience was the air conditioning. We could only turn it on or off rather than adjust the temperature, which made the room either too warm or too cold at night. On our first night, there were no comforters or blankets in the room, but after housekeeping serviced the room, we were provided with blankets for the remainder of our stay and had no further issues. Another small drawback was that the bathroom does not have an exhaust fan, so it became very steamy after showering.
The food was generally good, although many dishes tended to be oversalted. During our stay, we dined at Bahamas Steak House, Tengoku, and Krystal. Krystal was by far our favorite restaurant. While the host was somewhat curt when we arrived for our reservation, the experience quickly improved. Our servers were friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout the meal. I love how private this resort was; it felt like we had the beach all to ourselves. Everyone was so kind, but I do wish they had escorted us to our room. I got lost trying to find it, and I was alone with my son and our bags, having to carry them alone upstairs. I would recommend this place.

Although the staff was very nice, we were not very happy with the rooms. The decor was nice and the kitchen had everything needed but… Our first room was not cleaned well. The bathroom grout was dirty and the carpet sticky. We moved to another room and although that one was very clean there was an issue with the air conditioning. The room was always very humid. Our clothes felt humid all the time. As soon as you opened the door you could feel the humidity smell. Although they came to check on the AC it was never really fixed. Also the noise every time the AC turned on sounded like an airplane taking off. It was so loud and the unit was inside the bedroom, it would wake you up multiple times during the night.
Regarding transportation around the other properties, in the most part there were buses coming every 10-15 minutes which was fine, but one time we had to wait at the royal for 30 minutes waiting for a bus.
Everything there is very expensive, specially water!! One bottle is $12 USD.
The other properties were nice but be prepared to walk very long distances. To go to the the beach you have to walk a very long distance.
The food at the fish by jose Andre’s restaurant was delicious as well as the su day brunch at the buffet

We had an amazing 3 night stay here. Excellent staff and property. The beach which is about a 5 minute car ride away is also amazing. Best beach we have been on. The staff is very helpful with making sure you get there when you want. Can’t wait to come back here soon.
