Scottish Highlands Ski Vacations

We were here on vacation. The location was great, right by the river. The restaurant was good (they seem to dry-age their beef themselves). Staff very helpful, facility very clean. Only drawback, no elevator (which was only an issue with luggage, but staff offered to carry bags up for us). We'd happily come back.

The Loch Ness Country Hotel was lovely. Our room was quite large, with beautiful views of the gorgeous hotel grounds. The staff was friendly and helpful. There is a nice restaurant at the hotel, which is helpful as the hotel is about four miles from the city of Inverness. The only "downside" to staying here is that distance, as you cannot walk out the door and explore the city, but if you want a lovely, relaxing place to stay, you cannot do better!

The location is fantastic — the hotel sits in a great spot, and the entrance is charming. Unfortunately, everything else about our stay was disappointing. Due to a ferry cancellation, we had to book last-minute and arrived at the Royal Highland around 9pm. When we got to reception, no one was there, and there was no bell to alert staff. We waited at least ten minutes, during which time other employees walked past and saw us waiting but didn't acknowledge us or go find someone to help. When we asked about the free parking we'd booked, the attendant told us we'd actually need to use a paid multistorey car park. When we pointed out that our reservation included parking, she responded curtly: "We have 84 rooms here — do you expect us to have spaces for all of you?" This felt unnecessarily dismissive given we were simply asking about something we'd paid for. The room itself was a mixed bag. The wallpaper was attractive, but the space felt outdated overall. Neither bedside light worked, and the door rattled loudly every time someone in the corridor opened or closed theirs, which was jarring and disrupted our sleep. The walls were thin enough that we could hear conversations from the corridor clearly, which made it hard to relax or get any privacy. The shower had almost no water pressure, and the room lacked a hairdryer and conditioner. Overall: great location, but the service and room quality didn't live up to it.
