Comfortable old-timey stay in Saratoga Springs

Posted Apr 17, 2014
Pros: Clean, Comfortable, accessible to the town and good, hot complimentary breakfast
The hotel was fine. It was exactly what I had expected. Its clean, sufficient parking and a nice, hot breakfast. The rooms certainly are old. But they are maintained. Its a good, cozy place to stay in Saratoga Springs.

Pros: Furnishings, staff, location, breakfast best mattress ever.
Cons: Coffee.
Location: It's right in the heart of the city, easy walking or biking to everything.
I stayed here for a conference at Gideon Putnam. Last year stayed at the GP which is nice, but kind of mildewy, and I wanted to be closer to downtown. This place was awesome! The furnishings were beautifully authentic, including a beveling full length mirror that was tall enough for my 6'5" frame. The four poster bed was cool, but the mattress was the most comfortable I've ever slept on. At night, there was just silence, great sleep. Another bit that impressed me was that the mechanicals were flawless. The bathroom was updated, and it looked like everything was done very professionally, not slapped together like I see at many chain hotels. Very high quality fixtures too. Oddly, breakfast was included in my rate. I was able to order it the night before and they had it ready for me in the morning. A perfectly prepared waffle, yummy sausage, and a pile of fresh fruit. The coffee was disappointing, but that's okay. There are a lot of coffee shops nearby.

A pleaurable experience1

I entered after a long drive only to be informed that I would be receiving a complimentary room upgrade to ensure that I could remain in the same room for both dates of my stay. The room was quaint, comfortable and clean. I was exptremely appreciative of the complimentary glass of wine after that long drive. Sitting down to a reasonably priced gourmet meal in front of the fireplace in a comfortable easy chair with WiFi access wa an absolute pleasure in and of itself. But soon, charming music began to come from the lounge area, adding yet another surprising element to a wonderful stay. The location was convenient as well.

Nice place.

Hotel is a nice historical building. The one downfall is you can hear everything in the halls and in the room above you all night. Other then that, staff is very friendly, hotel is clean, beds are very comfortable and the complimentary breakfast is amazing.

Not what we paid for

Posted Mar 19, 2014
Pros: free wi-fi
Cons: don't be misleading
Location: in the center of town
We were expecting a free breakfast buffet because that was included in our purchase. Instead, all that was offered was a continental breakfast and NO buffet. Since breakfast is my most important meal of the day I was totally disappointed and I felt cheated.

Overall stay was ok.

We felt this hotel was more of an older crowd. We went there to celebrate our 3 yr anniversary and all we received were awkward looks. It made us feel a bit out of place not what i wanted on our special night. I guess next time we will just stay somewhere else. The only staff that seemed nice was the young girl at the check in desk and the gentleman when we checked out.
