A palace in Amsterdam

From the moment the cab passed the gate and into the courtyard I knew I had arrived. Everyone from the concierge to the front desk staff to the bartender at the Flying Dutchman, to the gracious room service personnel was friendly and eager to help. The room was beautiful and exquisitely appointed. It's worth the slight extra cost.

L'hotel offre servizi di livello assoluto, in linea con le stelle che lo classificano. La sua posizione è strategica per un turista e si raggiunge in 10 a piedi dalla stazione centrale. Camera ampia, letti confortevoli, bagno persino dotato di TV di fronte alla vasca. Personale gentile e disponibile. Lo consiglio senza dubbi. Unici (piccoli) nei: il prezzo della colazione un po' troppo alto e la mancanza di qualcuno nella reception che parli ... italiano

Excellent Hotel

Cons: The one thing that I did not like was that there was a step-up to the bathroom. I don't know why they did that since it did not seem necessary.
The staff was great. The location puts the hotel directly adjacent to a canal but you are only a short walk from the trams at Dam Square. The result is that the hotel is very quiet but you can get anywhere in Amsterdam quickly. Also, since you are right in the middle of the various canal rings, it is a great place to just stroll. There are endless cafes, restaurants, bridges and squares abutting an assortment of vistas of old Amsterdam. The hotel has an outside-garden-restaurant which is surrounded by the hotel building on all sides. It is beautifully landscaped and a great place for breakfast or dinner each day.

Nice hotel on the canal

Excellent service and fast. I have never been in hotel with that great service, not even at Four Seasons or Ritz Calton.

Luxury hotel in the heart of Amsterdam

Stayed three nights in this hotel and it was a straight pleasure from check in to check out. We travelled with a nine month old baby and the hotel staff were helpful in making everything as hassle free as possible. An example would be during check in: while we were checking in the receptionist called housekeeping on her own initiative to make sure the room was prepared for the stay with baby. Usually you have to ask for a cot to be placed in the room but she arranged it based on her own observation. Not a huge deal, but it's the small details that separate the good hotels from the great hotels. The hotel breakfast was also a positive experience. The service and quality was outstanding. We had some of the best dining experiences of our trip with this breakfast buffet. As to location, we used about 10 minutes to walk from the central station to the hotel and from the hotel all of downtown Amsterdam is easily available by foot. We used hop on-of sightseeing busses and boats to reach places like the Banksy exhibition and the van Gogh museum which is not located downtown. We also used the city tram system which was easy, effective and stroller friendly.

Fantastic Hotel with Wonderful Staff.

Pros: Primarily the staff. Their helpfulness and the fact they went out of their way (never obtrusively) to make our stay special was much appreciated.
Cons: Can't think of anything.
Location: Hotel located in the centre of old Amsterdam from where it is easy to reach just about everything Amsterdam is famous for.
We live in France for part of the year and on our way back to Western Australia decided that we would break the journey from Toulouse by staying in Amsterdam for 4 days. By luck we booked the Sofitel Legend the Grand Amsterdam and hit the jackpot. We have stayed in the best hotels in Singapore, Hong Kong etc. but this one was as good as it gets. Faultless. We stayed in Junior Suite 305 which directly overlooked the canal. It was a large and spacious room with a separate area for tea / coffee making. The bathroom had a large bath and a large separate shower. There is an excellent (but not ostentatious) Michelin rated restaurant within the hotel complex which specialises in seafood.

Very central, beautiful hotel

Pros: Comfortable, quiet, helpful staff, and good breakfast choice
Cons: Leave some instructions in the rooms on how to operate the expresso machine - not everyone has one of these. A small kettle would be welcome too.
Location: Very central, everything in walking distance
A beautiful central hotel with a modern elegant feel in an old building with character. Excellent choice for a luxury short visit to Amsterdam.

Cons: Did not like the room décor.
Great location to many tourist sights. Hotel itself is a historical building.
