Declining room and service quality
This was my 3rd time staying at Hotel Arena. I fell in love with this place since my 1st trip to AMS and had been staying only there ever since. During this stay however my experience was considerably less pleasant. I booked a suite room specifying my preference for a no-stairs room with a nice bathtub in the center of the room. When we checked in, we got into a pretty ugly-looking suite WITH stairs that looked very similar to the regular deluxe or classic rooms they have. At the reception, we found out that the room we hoped for is actually available. Thanks to the receptionist, we were able to change, but why not provide it in the beginning? There was no housekeeping provided whatsoever, which was later explained that it’s one of their COVID-19 measures and we needed to request the service in advance if we wanted it...My thought is that we could’ve been at least advised about such new measure upon our check-in. Also, the hotel and the whole city of Amsterdam barely has any measurements in place to prevent the spread of the virus, so I’m really skeptical about the reasoning behind not providing the housekeeping services to their guests. Last year we also visited Arena for my fiancé’s birthday and the hotel made a sweet note of it by leaving a couple of beverages in our room along with a special note for him. This time there was nothing on top of perhaps one of the least pleasant suites they have. I understand that such steps are optional, but that is what makes an impression
