Pen Mill Hotel

Pen Mill Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"From the moment I walked in the door this hotel gave me a brilliant experience. A really friendly welcome and check-in process. The room was no frills but a really comfortable bed and a large bathroom with very nice towels providing plenty of room to dry off after the shower. Ate in the restaurant and again every member of staff were helpful, attentive and welcoming which was just what I needed after a long day and being on my own. The food was also really very good as well. In the morning the breakfast was cooked fresh and loads of choice. Breakfast bap was perfect for me but I will definitely have the cooked breakfast next time. I will certainly return as felt the overall experience was very good value for money."

The Manor Hotel by Greene King Inns

The Manor Hotel by Greene King Inns

10/10 Excellent
"The single room was fine and reasonable value (the doors do shut loudly). The staff were all very friendly, helpful and impressive (excepting one rather sour lady behind the bar!). They were very polite and kind, it makes a big difference to how you feel about a hotel. The food was really good and not expensive, excellent value. The drinks selection was extensive. There's plenty of outside seating. All in all, I definitely recommend the hotel and would happily stay there again."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Bedchester?
The best area to stay in Bedchester is the historic city center, particularly around the Cathedral Quarter and the area radiating from Bedchester Castle. The Cathedral Quarter is the heart of Bedchester, characterized by its cobblestone streets and medieval architecture. This area is home to the magnificent Bedchester Cathedral and the impressive Bedchester Castle, providing a direct link to the city's rich history. You'll find a concentration of independent shops, traditional pubs, and quality restaurants here, making it very walkable and convenient for exploring on foot. Couples often find this area ideal for a romantic and culturally rich getaway. For those seeking a blend of convenience and access to green spaces, the area just south of the city center, bordering the River Granta, is an excellent choice. This neighborhood offers a more relaxed setting with views of the river and easy access to walking paths. It's still a short walk to the main attractions of the Cathedral Quarter but provides a slightly more tranquil base.
When is the best time to go to Bedchester?
The best time to visit Bedchester is during the late spring and summer months, from May to September, when the weather is generally pleasant and most attractions are fully operational.May and early June offer mild temperatures and fewer crowds, making it an ideal time for couples or solo travelers who prefer a quieter experience while still enjoying the blossoming gardens and outdoor activities. The days are long, providing ample time for exploring the historic sites and the surrounding countryside.July and August are the warmest months, great for families looking to take advantage of the school holidays. Bedchester's parks and outdoor venues often host special events and festivals during this period. While it can be busier, the extended daylight and warmer temperatures are well-suited for activities like boat trips on the River Bedchester or picnics in Bedchester Park.September provides a lovely transition with cooler, crisp air and the beginning of autumn colors, yet still offers comfortable conditions for sightseeing.
Where can I find the best nightlife in Bedchester?
Bedchester offers several distinct areas for evening entertainment, suiting different preferences. The City Centre is the primary destination for nightlife. You'll find a concentration of traditional pubs, modern bars, and a few dance clubs, particularly around Market Street and High Street. Many establishments here offer extended opening hours, and there are often options for live music, ranging from acoustic sets to cover bands. For a more relaxed evening, the historic Quarter of St. Augustine's is a good choice. This area features pubs housed in older buildings, often with a focus on local ales and ciders. It's generally quieter than the City Centre and suitable for conversations over drinks. You'll find these establishments clustered around St. Augustine's Square. The area around the University Campus also offers nightlife options, primarily suiting a younger crowd. There are several casual bars and pubs, some with themed nights or student discounts.
