There are lots of things to see and do in Zona 1, but venture farther afield and you'll find even more magic. Pick up a set of wheels and you can discover the greater area at your own pace. Add these fantastic places to your travel schedule:

• You'll find Quetzaltenango Central Park and loads of other amazing attractions in Quetzaltenango. From Zona 1, it's around 70 miles away.
• Roughly 50 miles away, Santiago Atitlan is also popular with wanderers. Make time to check out Atitlan Volcano while you're in town. It's one of the reasons people love coming to this buzzing city.
• Make tracks to Rio Dulce to rediscover nature. Pack a picnic to enjoy or just relax in the fresh air. From Zona 1, it's roughly 130 miles away.

If you don't hold a driver's license issued in Guatemala, then you might need to acquire an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. You should also be aware that if an IDP is required, it has no validity on its own. You'll have to show your current driver's license your passport and other forms of ID as well. Lastly, it's important that the credit card used to book the rental vehicle matches the name on your driver's license and passport. Some other requirements to rent a car internationally are:

• Age restrictions: You need to be 25 or over in most places to rent a car. If you're younger, it may still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of cars you can rent.
• Driving limitations: Be sure to read the rules and regulations before you drive off the lot. With rental cars, you usually can't cross country borders, drive onto ferries or go off-roading with your rental car.
