Zona 11 has plenty to keep you busy, but don't limit yourself to only one place. Book a set of wheels and hit the open road to see what's in the surrounding area. Here are some great options we've come up with:

• Quetzaltenango is around 65 miles from Zona 11. Renowned tourist attractions like Quetzaltenango Central Park deserve a place on your must-see list while you're in town.
• Next stop? Make it Santiago Atitlan, which is around 45 miles away. Atitlan Volcano is one local highlight you really shouldn't miss.
• Get out into the outdoors and breathe in some fresh air at Rio Dulce. You'll find it approximately 130 miles from Zona 11.

If you don't hold a driver's license issued in Guatemala, then you might need to acquire an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. Please also consider that if an IDP is required, it won't be valid on its own. You'll have to show your current license your passport and other forms of documentation as well. Lastly, make sure the credit card used to book the rental vehicle matches the name on your driver's license and passport. Some added requirements for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You need to be at least 25 in most countries to rent a car. If you're younger than that, it might still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of cars you can rent.
• Driving limitations: Be sure to read the fine print before you drive away. Usually, you can't cross country borders, drive on ferries or off road with a rental vehicle.
