Room was quaint and spotless, showered with plenty of hot water. Really not much to do in Chama, limited eating establishments. Group of deer walking down main strip, nice photo, well stocked grocery store.
A pleasant bit of history with modern conveniences
Historic building nicely restored. Includes a small bar and dining area. Food menu still being developed, mainly sandwiches at the moment but nicely done. Staff is friendly and attentive. The room was clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.
We travelled to Chama so we could ride the Cumbres Toltec train and chose to spend the night before at the Iron Rail Inn for thematic purposes and because of the easy access to the train station. We arrived late but the hotel staff were very considerate and helped make check-in super convenient. Overall, the room was clean, quiet, and cozy and we look forward to staying here again for future visits to Chama.
We had a wonderful stay. Cute place all newly renovated. Had a bar and small restaurant with a petit menu but food was delicious. We stayed 2 nights to ride the train. Depot was directly across the street. Staff were all super friendly and helpful. Had awesome rainfall shower.
This hotel is full of charm, including creaky wood floors. Breakfast isn't served, but the lunch-dinner menu is varied and the food is good. Excellent house margaritas! Staff is super friendly. Conveniently located across the main street from the railyards, if you're going to take the Cumbres & Toltec historical train. All guests followed the hotel's quiet hours rules, at least while I was there, even though at the end of the hall on the second floor, where my room was, there was a pool table and a big-screen TV showing a football game.
This is a lovely hotel settled conveniently across from the Cumbres and Toltec railroad station. It’s brand new, but renovated with much of the 1905-1920s features from the old building. Comfortable beds, and lovely updated bathrooms (with soft towels!) Beautiful!
We were lucky to experience their restaurant’s soft opening! Yummy food featuring southwest flavor. The bar is gorgeous and stocked. We took a beautiful walk around the sweet little town of Chama afterward. Highly recommend!

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Restaurant was good, but too busy and not enough staff. The staff run the restaurant, bar tend, serve, clean tables, and check people into their rooms! To enter your room, the restaurant is literally in the same space. Floors really cool, as they seem original, but creeky and we were afraid to move and create too much noise for other guests. The room was nice- redone and the shower was spectacular. However, deep cleaning leaves a lot to be desired. Overall a good night sleep to get to Cumbre and Toltectrain ride.for a one-night stay.
This is a historic property that is being lovingly renovated. We enjoy these types of hotels creaky floors and all. We met the owners and heard about plans. Quite a different experience than a big chain property. There’s a small bar in the lobby and they will have restaurant once the new kitchen is finished.
Room was good sized and. The bathroom had been redone. Bed was comfortable. If you’re in Chama for the train (isn’t everyone?), it’s right across the street.
Iron Rail Inn was close to train station which was exceptionally convenient. Our staff was exceptional, and service was 5++. Although, the Iron Rail Inn was still under some construction due to renovations over the last year, the facility and rooms were very nice. The Showers were 5 star and the sinks were enamel with sewing machine bases and furnishings throughout were antique looking. The BEST happy HOUR in Chama....drinks were so reasonable and the specialty flavors: wow!
Loved LEA, the owner, staff and the construction team as well. All were just so pleasant and went the extra to insure our stay was memorable, including the extra Fourth of July Decor for our Chama Elks across the street put together by the construction crew. We will be back again next year for the final Ribbon Cutting and to check on updates with the Inn!
Participated in the soft opening of the hotel (accidentally). Family owned. Very friendly and helpful staff. Everything is new apart from the antiques used to furnish the rooms (apparently collected over many years before they bought the hotel). Quaint and cozy remake of a prior hotel. Has a. bar (was a work in progress), porch on first (ground) floor and patio on the second floor (with fire pits and comfortable chairs). They will have a small store and small restaurant (which will be a good thing as there are very limited dining options on Mon-Wed in town). Look forward to going back some day and seeing the finished product. Clearly a labor of love and more like a B&B than a chain hotel.
This is a renewed historic hotel located near the Chama train ride. The effort put into renovation is very evident. It has an authentic old west charm without being too rustic. The room we had was nice and clean with modern amenities for the most part. There was no AC but at that altitude we were comfortable with the window open. A word of warning, Go for the larger rooms. We booked late because we had not planned to spend an extra night in Chama but the train ride is a day long adventure. As a result we took the available room #206. It is very small to the poin of being cramped. Overall though I would be happy to stay there again, jut not in #206.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was small but pretty. They’ve done a lovely job restoring this hotel.
On the down side, our first night there, there were some inebriated guests making noise in the upstairs common room until almost 1 a.m. There’s no management on the property at that point so no one was handling the situation.
The doors, which are gorgeous, don’t seal the door, they’ve been cut down at some point, so noise is loud and makes it seem like everything is right outside your door. It also lets the light in the hallway bleed into your room, making it feel like there’s a nightlight on. Bring a sleep mask if that’s an issue for you.
My other complaint is coffee in the morning. You have to go to the lobby for it but it’s not brewed until after 8 or so and there were no pods for the single cup coffee maker.
