Birthday trip ruined by hidden fees, a hot room, and a timeshare pitch
I booked this hotel for my girlfriend’s birthday. Here’s what you should know.
Fees everywhere: a $40/night resort fee (while the gym was under construction), plus $25 for early check-in and $25 for late checkout because we didn’t book on their website.
The front desk was cold and unwelcoming. I asked for a nice room with a view for her birthday, and nothing came of it.
Our room stayed around 80 degrees all night. When we asked about AC, they brought a small fan that did nothing.
The worst part: after check-in we were sent to someone who brought up her birthday and offered us $160 off steak and lobster, or a $260 cruise for $36. It sounded like a birthday treat. It was actually bait for a 90-minute timeshare presentation. Using a guest’s birthday to push a sales pitch is manipulative, and it soured the whole trip.
Also, the building key card kept failing, and the lobby is up a steep hill.
The room itself was solid and the microwave was handy, but I won’t be back. Celebrating something in South Lake Tahoe? Book elsewhere.
