Property was unique. Very clean and perfect size room. We unfortunately had to leave same day due a family emergency and wasn’t able to fulfill our whole stay. On our way out we handed the lady at desk our keys and she said is everything thing ok because we had just checked in. I let her know we had to leave for a family emergency back to Arizona. She said ok. I received an email that she was going to give a full refund which we didn’t ask for. She is a blessing and very grateful she was able to...

The front office people were super nice. I was a little put off by there not being an AC unit. It got to almost 80 my first day and it was hot. The fans they provided helped but it was a little loud. A mounted ceiling fan would do wonders.

The best area to stay in Fort Bayard is within the historic Fort Bayard National Historic Landmark District itself, particularly near the main parade grounds and the former officer's quarters.
This area is the heart of Fort Bayard, featuring well-preserved historic buildings that once served as military barracks, hospitals, and administrative offices. The layout is structured around expansive open spaces and tree-lined avenues, providing a sense of quiet and history. For those interested in the post's rich past, the Fort Bayard Museum is a central point of interest.
Couples seeking a tranquil and historically rich getaway will find this area particularly appealing. The opportunity to explore the grounds, learn about the Buffalo Soldiers, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings offers a great experience away from bustling city life. Many of the historic buildings have been repurposed, offering a chance to stay in accommodations with character.
For solo travelers looking for a reflective and educational trip, staying within the historic district offers direct access to the fort's walking tours and interpretive exhibits.
When is the best time to go to Fort Bayard?
