Perfection in cast iron By the mid 19th century the surveyors and iron masters working in the Welsh Marches had fine tuned the use of cast iron to produce magnificent bridges such as this one at Caerhowel. Their beautiful symmetry and fineness of structure had never been seen before, or since for that matter. This is one of the best that was made at The Brymbo Works. http://www.bhg.org.uk/BrymboHeritage/IndustrialHistory/Steelworks/Steelworks.htm The river in mid winter looks cold and menacing compared to the wonderful blues of summer.
The historic Ford at Montgomery (Welsh = Rhyd Chwima = the swift ford), near to Garthmyl, Powys, Great Britain. The ford from England to mid Wales across the River Severn used for at least 2000 years (until c1886). The main meeting place between the representatives of King Henry 3 and Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, last Welsh Prince of Wales, in the mid 13th century. Where the Treaty of Montgomery, granting Wales considerable autonomy, was signed on 29th Sept 1267......and much else!
