Honomū is a quaint coastal town on northeast Hawai’i’s Hāmākua Coast and the gateway to Akaka Falls State Park. Explore the park’s majestic jungle trails and see two awe-inspiring waterfalls: Kahuna and Akaka. Experience the park’s beautiful scenery and take in volcanic mountain and ocean views on an exciting zip-line tour. Sample some of the town’s famous produce and preserves, sourced from tropical fruit farms near the Akaka Falls.

Visit Honomū to enjoy this small town’s Old Hawai’i flair and renowned fresh produce. The local cafés and bakeries serve delicious regional Hawai’ian breads and pastries such as monkey bread, coconut and guava pastries, Kona shortbread and a range of sweet jams and jellies. Try lychee jelly, passion fruit mustard and calamondin marmalade. Sample some of the best Hawai’ian-style shaved ice on the island, best enjoyed with homemade liliko’i juice and ice cream. Take a bakery lunch to Kolekole Beach Park and enjoy a picnic with clear ocean views.

Head for the Akaka Falls State Park, located 3.6 miles (5.8 kilometers) from town. This lush rainforest park features a scenic uphill walking trail to the beautiful cascades of the Akaka and Kahuna waterfalls. Hike 0.4 miles (0.6 kilometers) up the paved forest trails and boardwalks and see native orchids and vivid green ferns.

Marvel at the tumbling waters of the Kahuna Falls. Continue along the trail to find the magnificent Akaka Falls, a 443-foot (135-meter) waterfall, which cascades into a deep gorge. The hike takes less than an hour. A small entry fee applies to the park. Enjoy your delicious Honomū treats at the park’s picnic tables near the entrance.

See the breathtaking natural beauty of the falls and surrounding park on a thrilling zip-line tour. Glide through the treetops in the safety of your harness and take in unparalleled views of the waterfalls, cliffs and ocean.

Honomū is located on the northeast coast of Hawai’i’s Big Island and can easily be reached from the scenic Hāmākua Heritage Corridor route.

I was very disappointed in the condition of the property. The screens were loose letting the lizards in. I was awake mist if the night because I didn’t want one crawling on me. The oven didn’t work so we had to use the microwave. Since it it didn’t crisp the appetizers they were not good to eat.
