Had a wonderful stay at The Grand Luang Prabang. Terrific staff, very helpful and courteous. The Hotel grounds were immaculate and appropriately decorated. Great breakfast buffet every morning. Very nice bar to have a drink at and watch the sun set. There is a lot of history on the grounds of the hotel. Can't wait to come back and see LP again!!!

swimming pool being renovated

Pros: the country estate feel
Cons: the stepping flag stones between the row of rooms to the walkway could be better stabilised
Location: quite a distance from the town. the night market is very good & you need to bargain The eating places are cheap & great choices.
If we had known in advance that the pool & driveway were under construction/ renovation I doubt if we would have stayed here. No compensation was offered for the inconvenience & the mud. I assume by now the construction has been completed & I would stay here again without hesitation The management & staff are very professional, friendly, efficient, courteous & respectful.

An oasis in the city

Pros: The setting, the manager, the staff, the colonial style the peace and calm and ambiance
Cons: WIFI
Location: Not much around the hotel but plenty of great restaurants and a night market.
The Grand Hotel was in a sublime setting overlooking the Mekong. Beautiful grounds and rooms faced the river. The food was very good and the service excellent with great staff who were more than willing to help. Wifi not good and often failed however this is true of all of LPB. The hotel is currently undergoing restoration with the pool not available and part of the entrance to the hotel under construction. This however did not detract from the peaceful ambiance and wonderful fauna and flora. The hotel is situated a short bus ride out of the city. A Tuk tuk costs very little to get back to the hotel. There is a free shuttle bus that goes to and from the town and was very useful both ways. They also do a free airport shuttle form the hotel to the airport. We eat in the hotel restaurant on the first night and the food was well cooked and great value for money with the service second to none.

Shangri-La on the Mekong

Pros: The French Colonnial style of the hotel and the setting on the bank of the Mekong surrounded by beautifully kept gardens.
Location: Rice Farm excellent guide, participation encouraged. Great Fun. Waterfall and tribal village. Offerings to the monks - morning and night markets.
The hotel is perfectly situated high above the Mekong. Dining on the terrace overlooking the Mekong is a real treat. Walking in the beautiful gardens is a delight. The French Colonnial style of the hotel is most pleasing with many pools with lotus flowers and water features. The trees in the garden are stunning and water buffalo crop the grass. Swimming in the pool watching the sunset is a must. Staff are very helpful and our room with balcony overlooking the Mekong was excellent. Shower water was always hot. I would rather stay in the peaceful setting of this hotel a short courtesy bus ride from the centre of Luang Prabang. This is our second stay here and we would return again. Thank again for a very special holiday.

we were at the hotel for 3 nights. the van that picked us up from the airport is old...the hotel is far from town, about 4 km. the shuttle schedule is inadequate. the hotel has a nice property but the rooms are dated. furnishings are old and some falling apart. the pool is nice, but the umbrellas and the chairs needs updating also. the staff were polite. i think they need more shuttle to go and from to town. i think the hotel should provide free alms viewing into town, considering its location is so far away.
