I booked a Double Room with an Ocean View (U), expecting a clear, direct view of the ocean based on past experiences. Instead, the view was very limited—you had to lean out just to see the ocean. At check-in, I was told this is considered “ocean view,” while a direct view is labeled “oceanfront.” No alternatives or changes were offered, and it was presented as my misunderstanding. Afterward, I found that other guests have had similar experiences, so this seems to be a common practice. Overall, this was disappointing and felt misleading compared to what I’ve experienced at other hotels. Clearer descriptions (or more flexibility at check-in) would go a long way in avoiding this kind of frustration.

Trying to put out an honest review here. Most of the reviews I’ve read haven’t been close to accurate, but overall this is a lower level family resort. You see all kinds of people here. Some who get dressed up for dinner and some who are apparently allergic to shirt sleeves. It gives cruise ship vibes. Tipping seems to follow the clothing choices. We tipped $3 every meal and a buck on most drinks. So drinks. No top shelf here. All well liquors. The local rum is Appleton estate and probably what to go with if you can. Lots of frozen sugar stuff too. We have 3 kids so they got a kick out of being able to order those. Food. Not great, but a few things were very good. Hit and miss by the day. The RIU app and booking the “restaurants” is a total scam. The restaurants are only open 2-2.5 hours, and the seating is extremely limited. You have to use the app to book and do it 2 days in advance so effectively you miss out on non-buffet dinner the 1st 2 days you are there. And calling the steak place a steak place should be a criminal charge. The beach. The sargassum was terrible the first half of the week the beach was covered and disgusting. They cleaned it up Wednesday and then it was great. No waves at the beach but the water was warm and clear and easily the best part of the resort. The service. Everything through the app, so it was pretty bad. Most island people are happy you are spending your money with them. Not here. This resort is turn and burn with lots of bad attitudes.

It was obvious that some staff we annoyed with whatever job they had to do but most of them were very pleasant. The other major issue was some guest kept leaving cups and plates (some wirh food still on it) all over the place. There were garbage bins everywhere with containers beside them to put your plates etc in for the staff to grab them. For example you could go to a smoking area and there would be several plates and cup just sitting in the tables or chairs. Overall though it was really good.

Top notch housekeeping. Always had an abundance of towels and a clean room. Reservations were tough. Like we could only get 8:30 times the whole week we were there. No service at the pool. No lobby drink service. I’ve been to 10 all-inclusives in various countries and have never not had pool or lobby service. The check in process was horrendous. 1:10 min waiting in line. After a long day of travel, this was brutal. Even not having someone greet you or help you with your bags was a turn off. No where to get food, snacks outside of restaurant service unless you were buying something from the gift shop. Most times the Sports Bar was empty of snacks or treats, they said they had. No room service. The resort was ok. We had a great week together. But I would not come back to this resort. Very meh.

too crowded and need more help there and people at desk needs to supply with all information at the time of check in no one is there to help you with your luggage to take to room and always have excuses for everthing so my first time at RIU and not that great of an experience. Property is huge. A lot of walking. Beach is perfect and clean, lots of chairs. Poolside is ridiculous with people reserving beach chairs at 6am. Hard to find a quiet and relaxing spot, feels way too busy with commotion for us.

The stay was excellent after I arrived. The issues came beforehand. My flight was canceled the day I meant to arrive, and apparently there is a policy which cancels reservations if you show up late and do not give notice. When attempting to notify the resort, i was completely unable to reach anybody who could help, even after trying multiple phone numbers and email addresses. Responses ranged from "we can't help you, try this number" and giving me the same number I had just called to simply not picking up the phone. Emails myself and Expedia sent went completely unacknowledged, and this whole experience was incredibly stressful and significantly impacted my experience.
