We were looking for a comfortable clean and safe place to stay in Monterey that we could walk to most everything and not spend over $200 a night. This was perfect! clean, comfortable bed, decent pillows, good location, safe and most everything walking distance (we walked to fishermans warf and cannery row each day) enjoyed seeing...geraniums in window flower boxes and colton logo on floor decent sized room and king bed friendly staff - no a/c but there was a fan and we opened windows so not bad - tight parking for larger vehicles

Super bummed and upset to write this review. Our stay was mostly fine. Continental breakfast with somewhat limited options. No options for water without flavoring. We stayed in room 223 which the smoke detector was set off every single time we used the shower. Even bathing our children so the water wasn’t overly hot or warm to cause this. Bathroom fan useless to non-existent to mitigate this. The main reason for my review is lack of customer service. We drove in 2.5 miles for a wedding. I accidentally left a pair of shorts behind and the hotel confirmed they were there but refused to ship them or hold them for more than 30 days. Very flimsy excuse about lack of packing materials to ship them and something about UPS being unkind to them? No idea what that has to do with it but lack of customer service or trying to find a solution outside of me having to drive 5 hours to retrieve them sucks especially when we spent several hundred dollars to stay. Will not return.

Safe and quiet neighborhood. Good options to eat in a walking distance. Parking free of charge. Good breakfast included. No ar condicioning… so our room was a little hot. But the roof ventilator and open windows solved the problem.

The hotel is right across the street from a fire station so it can be loud sometimes. The area is very walkable though with some cool historic landmarks. And not too far from the wharf. The room itself is nice except there is no AC so it got pretty hot through the day and we had to open up windows. There is also a TV with very limited channels and the hotel WiFi doesn’t work well at all. The breakfast they offer is pretty much just some bread products and yogurt so not super great but it was something. I don’t think the room is worth the price you pay but it was fine.

Comfortable stay and close to restaurants and the free trolley to take us to Cannery Row. It was nice to not be near the busy side of traffic and tourists. Room was clean and spacious. Front desk staff was very friendly. Will be booking more stays here in the future.

The Colton Inn is our go-to every time we visit Monterey, which is often! Friendly staff, very nice continental breakfast, close to downtown/wharf/old town but on a side street away from the hustle and bustle. Comfortable beds and easy parking. We stay here at least once and sometimes twice a year and it is always a very pleasant stay and perfect location to serve as home base for our exploration of the area. See you again next year!

If I ever return to Monterey, this hidden gem of a hotel will be my first choice. Everything is within walking distance, but it feels like I’m staying in someone’s house, it’s so quiet and comfortable. The staff if amongst the friendliest and most helpful I’ve ever encountered. I’m tempted not to put a review in for this place, as a part of me wants to keep this place a secret, but that wouldn’t be fair to the hotel.
