Clean, comfortable but in need of some TLC

Posted Nov 21, 2015
Excellent staff of this hotel, hampered by the aging facilities. The web photos make it look like a 4 star hotel, the lobby has been refurbished but not the rooms. If this was a $99. Dollar value hotel it would be sold out all the time. Awakened once by barking dogs but otherwise a quiet place...

Pros: Great location
Cons: Bathroom pocket door couldn't be opened/closed easily. Strange odors at times outside of the room. No AC.
Very basic accommodations for the price you have to pay. Expected more given it's location. Rooms need an upgrade. We also noticed at certain times a strange odor outside of the rooms that made me wonder if there a drainfield from the kitchen/bathrooms above the rooms... very unpleasant.

Cozy Hotel with a good location

Posted Oct 11, 2015
Pros: The location
Cons: The carpet in the room was visibly dirty. It really should be replaced. You should offer breakfast, or add a market.
Location: Roaring Camp Railroad in Felton CA
Our family of 4 stayed here while visiting Roaring Camp in Felton. The Hotel is conveniently located right off of 17 and only 6 min. from downtown Santa Cruz. The hotel is cozy and has a nice rustic feel to it, very friendly staff and the attached restaurant had great sweet potato fries!

Next to the golf course

Posted Oct 8, 2015
Pros: Proximity to golf course
Cons: Lots
At times it was like the hotel was in a parking lot of a pub, very nosing throughout the night. No air conditioning I thought was poor. On a good note the staff were friendly. But overall fairly ordinary considering the price.

Lacking conveniences far from the beach.

Posted Oct 3, 2015
Pros: The food in the hotel dining room was good and the staff was very friendly.
Cons: Inform guests the pool area is not available and make whatever improvements are necessary so that guests can use the pool.
I had been advised that there was no air conditioning in the room, so I was prepared for that. But there was no information in advance that the pool and outdoor seating area were closed. I had hoped to sit by the pool in the afternoon to wait for my room to cool down, but there was no place to sit outside. Then I had to move my room because there was a leak under the building with no apologies from the staff. I asked for some consideration for my inconvenience to have to change rooms, but my request was refused.

It was not a bad hotel but it was hot the weekend we were there and they have no air conditioning. They do provide a fan but it was still too hot. The grounds could use some work and the vending machine was not working. The staff was friendly and attentive. They do have a restaurant attached to the front desk which was convienient. It was also centrally located but still away from all the crowds.

The room was nice, but there is no sound barrier between rooms. We got in late at night and went to bed, the people in room next to us got up very early and were having a conversation we heard as if they were sitting on the end of our bed. You could hear people coughing like they were in the room with you. other than that, the place is nice and clean. but, sleep at a hotel/motel is too important to me to stay there again.

Great location, no AC

Posted Sep 9, 2015
Pros: I like quaint. My spouse, not so much.
Cons: More counter space in the bathroom.
Location: We were there to attend an event at UCSC and it was very close by. We found some wine tasting a few miles away.
Our options for Labor Day weekend were limited and pricy even a month in advance. We knew this was an older, quaint hotel, but the location was great. Other than no counter space in the bathroom, it was as we expected. The big surprise was no air conditioning. Guess we should have noticed that on the booking page (Expedia) or the web site, that I looked at. I believe most people do not feel comfortable leaving a window open to keep your room cool while they are gone, or even sleeping with one open when you are on the ground floor where people are walking by. For these reasons, I think it should have been made obvious in their write-up. The hotel did call about a week before to warn us of no AC, but by then finding a replacement hotel would have been difficult and expensive.
