EXCLUSIVE APT with TERRACE in Aristocratic XVI Century Palace in Historic Center

If you are looking for a unique and authentic experience of history, arts, culture and literature, here is where you want to be.
It's like to live in a living museum with all the latest comforts of the XXI Century.

The historical apartment - on the second floor with private elevator - still fully furnished with the family's ancient furniture, is located in the the historic center, in the most ancient area of the town - Vergini district - and is part of a 16th century palace, still belonging to the same princely family who built it.

There lived, in the 18th century, the Great Saint, Alfonso de Liguori (August 1st on the calendar), Doctor of the Church and Founder of the Congregation of the Very Holy Redemptor, and in that area he started his apostolate.

The apartment, served by a private elevator, is composed by two double-bedrooms (king-size and queen-size beds), dining room, living room, bathroom, fully furnished kitchen and huge panoramic terrace (90 mq - 1,000 sf).

Both bedrooms are served by 12,000 BTU A/C units.

Parking space inside the building upon request and for a little extra per-day.

The apartment is in an area very well linked to everywhere (2 subways, 5 bus-lines and taxi rank) and offers many touristic attractions (Greek Hipogea of 4th century B.C.; Sacrarium of Fontanelle; Saint Gaudioso and Saint Gennaro's Catacombs; and many aristocratic palaces and important churches).

In five minutes walk, you can reach Naples' Cathedral, with the priceless Saint Gennaro's treasure; and the National Museum of Archaeology, with the finest pieces of Pompei and the wonderful Farnese's Collection.

By appointment only, it's possible to visit the Prince's apartment, composed by several reception rooms, a huge ballroom with 18th century frescoes on the ceiling and a splendid 18th century chandelier, a very important library with 16th - 17th - 18th century books, in which rooms the princely family regularly organizes cultural events as concerts, theater exhibitions and debates.

On these occasions, and especially by night, some ghosts belonging to the family have appeared and seemed to enjoy very much to be in company. :-)

Furthermore, our Palace and its various apartments, including this one, have been a film set for important films and TV series, including, just to mention a few:
- "M son of the century" by Joe Wright (2022)
- "Mixed by Herry" by Sidney Sibilia (2022)
- "Ripley - the series" by Steven Zaillian (2022)
- "Nostalgia" by Mario Martone (2021)
- "Sono solo fantasmi" by Christian de Sica (2021)
- "I fratelli de Filippo" by Sergio Rubini (2020)
- "Gomorrah - the series" by Stefano Sollima & Francesca Comencini (2020)
- "The Jackal - the series" by Francesco Capaldo (2017)

Unique and characterful apartment
We loved our stay in the impressive Palazzo De Ligouro, and felt totally welcomed by the family. We were met by Francesco - who was in town while we were there, and later shown around by his mother Paola, who lives there full time. She was a fascinating lady who gave us a tour of the building and was very helpful in pointing us towards interesting things to see and do. The apartment itself is a wing of a much larger Palazzo - very spacious for a couple, but would also suit a family. There is a small kitchen that is simple but sufficient to cook a decent meal, and a very large terrace which is great for eating, sun bathing, and people watching. The building is right in the heart of the Sanita neighbourhood, which feels very Neapolitan - in the sense of it being noisy and chaotic - but also very safe and friendly. You get the sense that at one point it would have been completely off the map for tourists, but these days you see a few coming to visit the catacombs, and some of the churches in the area. We thought the Ipogeo dei Cristallini - a small Greek era underground mausoleum a short walk from the house - was particularly fascinating. One other great feature of the house is that it sits literally on top of one of Napoli's best pizzerias. Overall, thoroughly recommended! Though perhaps the area would be a bit noisy and energetic for some people who are looking for a more restful place to stay.

Quirky, inviting and beautiful
This was properly one of my favourite places I've stayed while travelling. The host, Paola is welcoming and really takes you under her wing. Her son, Francesco, is also excellent and extremely friendly. Highly recommend this beautiful, unique palace in a fun, interesting neighbourhood.

Faded elegance; a date with history
The palace apartment is so spacious - and the large piazza gives views on a bustling working class neighborhood with cafes and a market. The gracious and most welcoming owner is a reason alone to visit - her family’s long history in Naples (and elsewhere in Italy) is fascinating. We stayed 4 nights surrounded by antiques, but the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom and kitchen amenities fully modern.

Great for some but not for us I’m afraid
The apartment is located in a 16th century palazzo in the center of Naples bustling old town. The charming hostess, Paola, shares an adjacent apartment and her family have owned the property since inception. The apartment has a nice big balcony and is full of impressive antique furniture. However, overall it’s rather shabby, rather unclean and the purported air conditioning…something of a must have in Naples in summer….is one mobile unit and lots of fans. As mentioned, the attractions of the property and its location in a (very!) vibrant neighborhood may be enough to outweigh its shortcomings but, sadly, not for us

Great way to live like a true Neapolitan
The palazzo is very old but very large, very comfortable and in an excellent location - near the markets, restaurants and walking distance to everything. Yes a little noisy but it added to the experience and we could shut it out with the huge wooden doors. Our host Paola was wonderful and knowledgeable about the history and where to visit. We felt like family. We would definitely recommend this place if you really want to experience authentic Neapolitan life.

You are sleeping in a Palazzo down a noisy market street.
You are sleeping in a museum, a glorious run down Palazzo down a noisy dirty market street in the old part of town. The sounds and smells of scooters make the terrace unusable and keeps you tossing and turning at night. One of the best pizza places in town is just just below the apartment. If you are able to go with the flow and hike back into the market, brave the scooters and hawkers this may be for you. Coffee at the Bar Peru is excellent. Owners of the palazzo are super nice and helpful. This is not an ordinary experience. Kitchen is new and washing machine too. Highly recommend.

The real side of naples
A great opportunity to see how Naples really works, Sanita the area is bustling and real but the apartment and real life princess literally live alive it Don’t go expecting some shiney 5 star apartment, it’s 600 years old and in places it shows Do expect a warm welcome from a grand lady who loves her city and her neighbourhood Francesco’s communications are great and this is a great way to immerse yourself in the city

A taste of real Naples
Rather than stay in a faceless hotel in a tourist area, we chose to stay in this delightful palace in an old part of town. The bustle and noise of Vespas zooming through the streets dodging pedestrians never stops, but this was all part of the experience for us. Paola de Liguoro was an excellent host — and even though she had an injury (after being knocked over by a woman on a motorbike) she still welcomed us into her spacious apartments, which is part of the ancient Liguoro Palace, with all its dazzling artworks, chandeliers and furniture. The 'snowflake' cakes were most welcome! Our apartment was warm and comfortable. The kitchen is on the small side, but as we ate out every day and evening it wasn't a problem. The roof terrace is spacious and because the whole of Europe was having a very mild spell in February it was warm enough to sit outside and watch the hustle and bustle. We didn't bother with the famous pizzeria down below as every night there were crowds of young people queuing for a table, but we found plenty of simple down-to-earth delicious fare in the local trattorias and pizzerias. If we ever return to Naples I would definitely return to this apartment. Thank you Francesco and Paola!
