Quiet neighborhood and close proximity to shops and restaurants on Hawthorne. Spent the last day just watching around the neighborhood. Nice to have parking in this close to town
Beautiful property in a great location! The inside is whimsical and cozy, with beautiful houseplants plants everywhere!. My husband kept saying he could see himself living there. The sculptures outside gave an added flare of cool. If you like edgy art and cottagecore style, this is your spot.
We loved the sculpture garden. The art is impressive! The location is perfect and the interior of the property is so charming and cozy. The use of reclaimed wood gives it such a warm, homey feel. We will definitely stay here again
It felt like I was in a rural cabin right in the city! This was perfect for a couple nights and so cozy. Pretty quiet for being on a main road, it was well equipped and walking distance from lots of good things. Would stay here again! Thanks for having me!
Needed to stay in Portland for a couple of days for transplant testing. This place is absolutely adorable. Cozy place, super romantic, utterly charming. I didn't want to leave!
We had a lovely stay at the magic barn. There were lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance and it's a great neighborhood. Felt very safe walking around. The Magic Barn was tidy and had all the amenities we needed for our stay.
Beautiful interior and ambience, romantic getaway!
The property was great, secure and thoughtful with everything they provide, the tub was very nice and the pothos plants and monstera plant was so cool! Definitely would recommend this property to friends and family. Only thing that we didn’t like was the mattress was not comfortable and woken up very early by a very loud dog barking at a nearby neighbors house.
I booked this location to see a concert at the Hawthorne Theater, which was just a short walk away. Everything I could have needed was within walking distance and the property itself was beautiful. The Magic Barn was exactly as described and felt magical, it was so cute and quaint and super comfortable. I hope to stay here again when I'm in town for my next concert!
Very sweet, otherworldly studio in the backyard of an older home. There is a very quiet, eccentric aesthetic in the place that was warm and welcoming. We'd be happy to spend more time there.
We had an awesome time exploring Portland and using the magic barn as our home base. It was quiet, clean, comfortable and has an endless amount of charm. We enjoyed our morning coffees outside each morning before walking to Hawthorne to take in all the experiences Portland has to offer. Can’t wait to come back!
Such a cute property! We loved our stay in the Magic Barn. So cozy and warm feeling. The sound of the rain on the roof and skylights was heavenly. Uniquely decorated and loved all the plant vines cascading around the ceiling.
Would definitely recommend this space to others!
I went to Portland for a solo birthday trip and was drawn in by the description and photos of the magic barn when looking online. It completely surpassed expectation and I could not be more thrilled with my trip went. It’s such a gorgeous, cozy little space and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a private little getaway in the a great part of the city.
This is the perfect place to stay if you’re going to a concert at the Hawthorne Theater. The Magic Barn is just that, magical. We enjoyed it thoroughly.💫
The traffic noise from Cesar Chavez was loud until after 11:30 or so, and the mattress/box spring was loud and uncomfortable. But the location can’t be beat, and the host was super nice and easy to work with. We dug the Magic Barn. It’s cozy and even has a claw-foot tub.
Had a lovely time in the magic barn. It was so cottage-y and fairly like. Only thing I wished for was a TV. Other than that I had a great time with my sister. It was clean, cozy, and the hosts were available when needed. Best part, checkout was a breeze. No crazy hoops to jump through. Loved it and will return.
It was a cute little place. Bed was really squeaky. So getting up to use the bathroom was a bit of a mission trying not to wake up my niece haha. Pillows were not the best but fold them in half or bring your own. Location was great we would walk down to Hawthorne to walk around, shop and definitely eat drink and walk back. 420 friendly so that was awesome..seen a raccon crawl across the fence up a tree and on to the roof haha definitely loved it and will definitely be back
Easy to access, great location. Love the fireplace heater. Cool "tiny home" experience over the downtown hotel we usually stay at. If you read all of the info in the packet they send, it makes your stay very easy & understandable - so be sure to do that.
The only thing is the bed - I'll second the other reviews here to say it is squeaky and only broken in on one side, so being the second person sleeping closest to the wall, I was sleeping on a slant lol. Definitely recommend a mattress topper or full replacement, but other than that it's charming and is within walking distance to a great area.
Thanks!

not what is seems
I was so excited to come to the barn.
Not only was checking in confusing, the property manger took I think 3 days to get back to me.
The water was cold- and very hard to get hot water. The bed was so uncomfortable and lumpy. The garden was dirty.
They had a party staying in the main house.
The coffee and fireplace was nice.
The place could be chraming if they did a deep cleaning of it and actually care about it.
A few minutes walk away from the Hawthorn Theatre where I attended a concert. Felt safe and was pretty quiet for all the traffic that comes by. Be prepared to lug your items in unless you paid for driveway parking. The space is small and cozy, perfect for one or two people. I wish there was a microwave, but that may just be my laziness talking because the toaster oven did well for most things. The only thing slightly confusing is the tub being listed as a hot tub. It explains it in the papers sent, but it's still kinda confusing when you go to look at your reservation on Vrbo and see hot tub and think "oh, I didn't remember that! How exciting!", then get disappointed. Maybe it's my short memory span though.
I was locked in, unable to find the code to the gate
The place was great, except for too-too soft couch. . . the bath tub was lovely. My c/o is that the code to open the gate to the property was not posted anywhere in 'the welcome' packet. . ..I called the onset manager who was prompt, gave me the code, we both looked @ my emails = no code. He just kept saying 'this has never happened before' which I did not find helpful
