Porto Seguro is the historic point of discovery for Portuguese settlers in the early 16th century. With its many stunning bays and unique place in history, the city is a cultural and scenic haven for vacationers. Discover the region’s rich past in the vibrant Porto Seguro Old City Center and relax on the stunning beaches. Wander through the old city center at night to see the colonial churches and buildings illuminated with an innovative lighting system.

Learn about the arrival of the Portuguese at the Discovery of Brazil Monument (Memorial da Epopéia do Descobrimento). In the museum, peruse the intriguing temporary and permanent exhibits that shed light on the historic arrival in 1500. The complex includes a replica of a ship from the fleet, which you can explore with a docent.

Among the beaches on the outskirts of the city is the northern Muta Beach, known for its colorful maze of coral reefs. Spot crabs and other beach treasures in the sand. Visit Pitinga Beach, on the other side of the city, for the natural pools that emerge here at low tide and the facilities available at beachside tents. Nearer the city center is Taperapuan Beach, which is animated with street performers, live music and exercise classes.

Dine at one of the many restaurants and bars in the lively Passarela do Álcool in the downtown area of the city. Try shrimp, lobster and other regional seafood as well as international cuisine.

To the south is the quaint resort town of Arraial d’Ajuda, with some of the first colonial structures in Brazil. Treat the kids to a day at the Arraial Eco Park Water Park that overlooks the ocean.

The city of Porto Seguro is located in the state of Bahia in the northeastern corner of Brazil. Its beaches lie beside the the Atlantic Forest, which covers a huge part of the country. Arrive at Porto Seguro Airport from other parts of Brazil and drive east for 10 minutes to get to the beaches. Take an overnight bus from Salvador to get here.

Porto Seguro is a fascinating beach oasis that was the starting point for the Portuguese-influenced culture in Brazil.

Great staff to manage very limited resources

"The pool area is good, but the all inclusive regime offers limited options. The rooms are not really confortable and the air conditioning doesn't fit to the rooms area; the result is a warm room, even if you set the conditioner at max cold. Food quality is fair, but one cannot expect a gastronomic ..."…"
