San Marino Vacation Packages
See ancient fortresses clinging to mountain ridges and enjoy dazzling panoramas. Cafés, grand palaces and museums line zigzagging cobblestone streets in San Marino. Officially Città di San Marino, it is the capital of the Republic of San Marino. Founded in A.D. 301, today San Marino is a showcase of centuries-old traditions and architectural masterpieces.
The city’s core attractions lie within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of San Marino Historic Center and Mount Titano. It includes churches, convents, gates, towers and palaces. Discover this district on foot via a network of twisting alleys, inclines and staircases. Pause at observation decks to admire picture-perfect views of mountain landscapes, Italian villages and the Adriatic Sea.
Visit the Three Towers, defense fortifications on Monte Titano connected by a picturesque mountain trail. Marvel at the fairy-tale appearance of the 11th-century Guaita Tower. Walk across Cesta Tower’s battlements and spot antique weapons at its Museum of Ancient Arms. Don’t miss the less-visited Montale Tower, a former lookout and prison.
Come to Liberty Square for dining alfresco and exploring San Marino’s government building, Palazzo Pubblico. Peek inside richly decorated rooms where the nation’s heads of state hold official meetings. A short walk from here is the neoclassical Basilica of San Marino, which holds the relics of St. Marino. The adjacent Church of St. Peter houses beautiful murals and sculptures.
Stroll from Liberty Square past cafés and souvenir shops to Piazza del Titano. See art, ceramics, coins and royal treasures at the State Museum of San Marino. At nearby Piazza Garibaldi is a bust of Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi.
Make time for the Gallery of Contemporary and Modern Art, Museum of Torture and St. Francis Museum.
Reach San Marino by flying to Rimini and renting a car. Parking is available, for a fee, outside the city’s ramparts. Appreciate the city’s splendor on a scenic cable car ride from the historic center to the neighboring city of Borgo Maggiore.
