"A wonderful stay in the heart of Stone Town!
We stayed at Emerson Spice during our trip to Zanzibar and what a fantastic place it is!
The hotel is full of character, with beautiful traditional architecture and a real sense of Zanzibar’s history. It’s completely different from your typical hotel, which is exactly what makes it so special.
The location is brilliant for exploring Stone Town, with everything within easy walking distance. The atmosphere is relaxed and authentic, and staying here...

"The resort was very clean and well maintained, there was a peacefulness which you would not get in the more busier resorts. The staff were helpful and very friendly.
Only thing I would say is that the dinner service was quite slow, however food was quite good."

We stayed at Tulia for 5 days following a safari. The resort was amazing but the best part was the staff. They did everything they possibly could to make our stay the best it could be. They were the friendliest, happiest people we have come across in our travels. The food was outstanding, with plenty of options. We had our flight get delayed and they allowed us to stay on property and use the facilities while we waited. They even arranged for us to shower in the spa before we left. One of...

WOW, the property is very relaxing. It’s very beautiful and the staff , I mean there perfect from the manager to the waiters/bartenders and women that keep the rooms immaculate. They treated me so well, the food is amazing and the views from the bungalows are very beautiful. I would definitely recommend this place if you want a beautiful experience of Zanzibar and the spectacular ocean views it has to offer.

The mosquitoes were terrible. I recommend that every bed should have a net for mosquitoes/ The restaurant should have more staff with more English knowledge

TOA is a new facility in the as-yet unspoiled Pongwe Beach area. The facility itself is beautiful, and kept immaculately clean. The staff are unfailingly kind, helpful and efficient, and everyone greets you with a smile and warmth. The food is delicious and beautifully prepared, and the grounds and amenities are spotless and carefully maintained. The most memorable part of the stay is the staff; I cannot say enough about how kind and generous they are. I highly recommend a stay at TOA.

Beautiful property, excellent food, staff was friendly, room was in great shape with excellent amenities (had one villa and one regular hotel room), pools very good (we were in "Level" area), food service, internet good (not great, but most video streaming worked sufficiently), only drawback was no on-site water sports: beware of the guys on the beach as they were not very reliable on jet skiing and others. Referral for Kibwana Divers (office 20 minutes away) was excellent.

Very friendly staff settled in a beautiful surrounding. Great pool, and everything is so clean. We felt really looked after.
How ever, it said in various sites that there is a beach here, it is, maybe 25 sq meter in total, but with no acces to the sea, there is a very large ref.

Stayed here for one week and enjoyed it. The hotel is on a fairly busy beach in Stone Town. Breakfast was excellent, dinners were sometimes good and sometimes not but the salad bar was great. It is safe to walk around Stone Town with plenty of restaurants, souvenir shops, fruits and spices for sale. There is a nice ice cream store right across from the hotel and although most places take US$ there is a money exchange very close by (on the other side of the building tunnel with good rates). You...

Very unique and one of a kind hotel in the middle of stone town. Surely you can settle for comfort and choose Hyatt but you can do that anywhere in the world. Emerson Spice is a truly exceptional hotel with a very attentive staff. You will be wowed!

Beautiful clean and modern hotel. Right at the airport. Staff very kind and work hard. Food was delicious but some of the servers could use a little more training but they were very pleasant. Downside is they only provide 1 key card this can be an inconvenience if you’re traveling with someone who remains in the room. The key card controls the power for the room and you need it to operate the elevator. Therefore, you have to keep asking front desk to swipe their key card. Otherwise, hotel is...

First experience on an all-inclusive hotel. very nice service, the staff is super friendly and helpful. The location is amazing, lovely beach and coral reefs to explore. no snorkeling or dolphins, that is on the other side of the island. The buffet and drinks service is ok, nothing special, although I'd have liked to have some local/african foods or drinks to experience.
General facilities within the hotel and the beach side are very nice, the wi-fi is limited to some location only...

I celebrated my honeymoon on June 8th at Lux and was thoroughly impressed with the experience. In fact, I plan to return next year at the same time. I hope to see Grace, who works at the reception. She truly deserves to be a manager. Lux, I am coming back and would love to stay in the same room, number 65. Thank you for making my honeymoon a magical experience for my wife and me.

We absolutely loved everything about the Tembo Hotel! Everything was great-from a speedy check-in and check-out to the incredible staff that made sure we were always well taken care of at all times. This is a beautiful property with much charm-take the time to explore the different floors and rooftop views! I also can't say enough about the amazing breakfast that's included. Every day was a surprise of different juices, breads, pastries, main courses, local and international tastes and cooked to...

If you're the type of traveler who eats at McDonald's in other country's, then this property is probably not for you, but if you want to immerse in the local culture, its fantastic. Make sure you specify a bathroom in your room, unless you're ok with sharing, and make sure you arrange for a pickup at the airport for transportation to the hotel. The street is about 5 feet wide, and the van has to park a few blocks away. The area adjacent to the hotel is a lot like Marrakech, Morrocco with...

The best area to stay in Selem is Kendwa, located on the northern tip of Unguja.
Kendwa is popular for its beautiful, wide sandy beaches and calm, clear waters. Unlike some other areas in Zanzibar, Kendwa's beaches are less affected by tidal changes, allowing for swimming and water activities throughout the day. The main stretch of beach is lined with resorts and restaurants, creating a relaxed yet engaging atmosphere.
For couples, Kendwa offers a romantic setting with its stunning sunsets and opportunities for beachfront dining. Many resorts provide direct beach access and private balconies, superb for enjoying the ocean views. The area also has options for snorkeling and sunset cruises.
Solo travelers will find Kendwa appealing due to its social yet laid-back environment.
When is the best time to go to Selem?
The best time to visit Selem, Unguja North Region, Tanzania, is during the dry seasons, which run from June to October and December to February.
These periods offer consistently sunny weather with minimal rainfall, creating ideal conditions for beach activities, snorkeling, and diving. The ocean is generally calm, and visibility for underwater exploration is at its best. This is particularly appealing for couples seeking a relaxing and romantic getaway, as they can enjoy uninterrupted days on the pristine beaches and participate in water sports.
The shoulder seasons, April to May and November, also present a good opportunity to visit. While there might be occasional short showers, the weather is still pleasant, and fewer tourists are around. This can be a great option for solo travelers looking for a more tranquil experience and potentially better value on accommodations and activities.
