Where to stay in Shonan

Every year in summer, a Star Festival is held called Tanabata. Two star deities, Orihime and Hikoboshi, can meet each other in the night sky. Theirs is a tragic love story, but children celebrate them by writing wishes on streamers to fly to the heavens. This festival is a major event in Sendai, but it's smaller cousin in Hiratsuka is also impressive and a lot of fun! Wear your yukata or jinbei!

The beaches and monuments are a few reasons travelers visit Kotsubo. Though there aren't many top sights in the neighborhood, you can visit Zaimokuza Beach and Yuigahama Beach, a few notable attractions nearby.

"Emergency landing in Haneda airport with subsequent flight delay. Decent hotel with good bars and restaurants on the premises. Close to the airport (a couple of miles or less). Airport shuttle every hour. Rooms are small, but clean."
