Clean, but some minor annoyances

Posted May 7, 2016
Pros: I'm not one to typically post negative reviews about hotels, but this experience did not come close to meeting expectations.
Cons: None of the things above are huge issues, but a bunch of minor things that added up.
I found the Genesee Grande to be clean, quiet and convenient. Unfortunately, my experience was less than ideal during my stay and I doubt I'd stay here in the future. I had the following series of minor annoyances during my stay. 1. You enter through a breezeway which separates the two buildings. I arrived during a heavy rain and a gentleman working for the hotel directed my to the incorrect entrance to check in. There was no signage at the entrance/breezeway to direct to check-in, you think this would be standard. 2. I got to the room and the desk light was not functioning - switch appeared to be broken. 3. Wifi signal was poor and I needed to drag a chair to the door of my room to get any usable signal. 4. There was conditioner and lotion in the bathroom, but no shampoo. I stopped at the front desk to request a bottle of shampoo and although the woman was gracious, the shampoo never arrived, necessitating a call to the front desk several hours later. 5. There was no hook on the back of the bathroom door nor towel rod in case you wanted to reuse your shower towel. So much for going green. 6. The lights next to the bed cannot be shut off without getting out of bed - not convenient if reading before bed time. 7. They have a coffee stand with 'grab and go' items that is supposed to open at 6AM. I got to the lobby around 6:10 and no one seemed to be working there, waited about 10 minutes then left since I needed to get on the road for a business meeting.

Historic and beautiful

Posted Apr 22, 2016
The hotel was appointed with historical features like a rotary dial telephone from the early 1900s placed in the hallway, very cute. My room was clean and very nicely decorated. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would stay there again. Don't miss the Syracuse University Theatre down the street. We saw a great play and ate at Phoebes. Really good food.

Overall, this hotel was wonderful. My room was spacious and comfortable, and everyone was very friendly. Wifi was a little disappointing. I don't know if it was because they were completely booked or not, but it was incredibly slow most nights. I ended up paying for more data on my cell phone plan for the month so I could keep up with my work while at the hotel.

Overpriced hotel with good food

Posted Mar 24, 2016
Pros: The staff in general were pleasant if ill-informed about the needs of experienced business travelers.
Cons: Do not dose the rooms with whatever that nasty chemical is that kept me awake all night. It's either some chemical used in cleaning or a freshener.
Location: No good restaurants in the area - just college dives. The staff did not know enough to direct me to the Armory district which apparently is good.
The best thing about this hotel is a) it has the best restaurant around that is open late and b) it was where my conference was held so I didn't have to travel to the conference. The conference food was good.

Able to walk with the family to the Dome. Quiet area and easy to access. Close to the Mall too.

Elegant at a decent price.

Posted Feb 29, 2016
Pros: Perfect location for both sports and culture. Very clean.
Cons: Switch to less strong smelling cleaning products. The smell was distracting.
Location: Walking distance from the Dome and Syracuse Stage.
Lovely hotel close to the Dome and Syracuse State. Beautiful and elegant lobby, clean comfortable room. Our only complaint is the overpowering smell of the cleaning products.
