Listen to the story of the earls of Pembroke and the former priory on this site. Take the children to the playground in the pleasant gardens.

Wilton House is a grand mansion in the green setting of Wiltshire’s countryside. Elegant gardens include a playground area for kids and surround the large gray house. It has an intriguing history, having belonged to the estate of the Earl of Pembroke for four centuries. Meander through the halls of this impressive structure to learn about its individual chambers and their stories.

Speak to the guides tending each of the stately rooms about its history and furniture. Guided visits of the entire mansion take place twice per hour and last about 40 minutes. Large groups can book a 90-minute guided tour that goes into greater detail about the house and its past.

Find out about the many historical figures who inhabited this house over the centuries. These include the first earl of Pembroke, William Herbert. Ask the guides about the various architects who played a major role in the design of the building. Marvel at impressive paintings and other decorative features in the large chambers. The Single Cube Room is among the highlights, a 30x30x30-foot (9x9x9-meter) room with a white marble fireplace and ornately painted ceiling.

Wander around the picturesque features of the landscape gardens. Cross the Palladian Bridge and admire its Romanesque arches and columns. Capture photos of the green hills adorned with colorful vegetation.

Exhibitions with themes ranging from cars to photography take place on the grounds. The playground and café make a daytrip to the house ideal, allowing time to explore the house and grounds and have a light meal.

Entrance to the house and grounds requires a fee for adults, with discounts for kids and families. A separate price covers the grounds, playground area and exhibitions. Check the Wilton House official website for details on opening times.
