Last night I was able to set up my star tracker and mount up my camera to capture the Orion Nebula. This is the first time I have even attempted something like this. Before I have only used my tracker for wide landscape shots.

The three stars on the left are Orion's belt. The Nebula is in the middle of Orion's scabbard. The nebula is estimated to be 24 light years across. It has a mass of about 2,000 times that of the Sun.

You can actually see Orion's nebula with the naked eye, that is why the scabbard looks fuzzy. You can also see this with just a pair of binoculars, this image was taken at 200 mm, so not too much zoom.

"The atmosphere at this lodge was peaceful and restful. We spent a lot of time in the rocking chairs on the patio looking out at the lake. The breakfast was adequate, with gluten free options that were a welcome surprise. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Some of the details in the room could be updated, specifically the balcony/bathroom door handles and the bathroom flooring that was cracked and moved when you stepped on the tiles. "

Location was quiet, offered easy access to town/sites and afforded ample parking 24/7. Above all, beds were so, so comfortable with plenty of pillows. There was an in-room fridge we really appreciated. And the bathroom was clean and well-stocked with delicious-smelling products. We’d definitely stay here again and highly recommend it for future visitors!"
