![Joseph Winthrop Holley, born in 1874 to former slaves in Winnsboro, South Carolina, founded the institution in 1903 as the Albany Bible and Manual Training Institute. W. E. B. Du Bois inspired Holley to return to the South after he read Du Bois's writings on the plight of Albany's blacks in The Souls of Black Folk. Holley relocated to Albany to start a school. The transition to four-year status heavily increased the school's enrollment. The linen was clean and fresh. Unfortunately, the amenities were not what they said they were on this app. The shower and bathtub had mold really bad. I had to scrub the bathtub myself to take a shower. No coffee in room, real accommodation, no breakfast, no indoor cameras, homeless down, smells like smoke and others, the list goes on. That was not a queen bed, it was tiny. It was late so we just took the room to get the kids in bed so they offered no accommodations since we took it. We had no choice, no their hotel around had vacancies. We did talk to the manager the next morning and he apologized and said if he had been in he would have given us a king room instead, so apparently there were other rooms, they just couldn't give it to us without him.
