Yurting on the Canoochee River Yurt

Yurting on the Canoochee River! This is an experience that you will remember forever. This specialized 20' ft round tent is located on the Canoochee River in Claxton, Ga. Your friends will say," You are staying in a what???!" This is overlooking the Canoochee River. It will has a queen size bed, small kitchen , and living room.
Great place for a honeymoon or just a romantic get away.
We have now added a shower and a larger hot water heater.
Come and enjoy the first yurt on the Canoochee River! Great for honeymooners or a cozy couple!
Note: Presently, winter months are not available to be booked. The past two winters have had excessive flooding. Host will make these weeks available two weeks at a time as the water level is adequate for guest.
The linens will be stocked according to the number of guest you have indicated will be coming with you.
The access roads are not "county maintained". You will travel down 1.5 miles of dirt roads. However, my compact car handles it well. You will find it worth the bumpy ride!
Your vehicle will be dusty on a dry day and muddy on a rainy day. You will not escape with a clean vehicle.
Kayaks are available for your enjoyment.
Located right on the banks of the Canoochee River! Within 10 minutes is the small town of Claxton, GA. It has all the convivences of any local small town. Many fast food restaurants, moderate grocery store, and many gas stations, as well as, dollar stores.
Claxton, GA is the home of the World Famous Fruit Cake.
There are two other cabins on the property. However, the distance and woods provide a great deal of privacy.
There is no public transportation. You will have to travel a little less than 2 miles on dirt roads to get to the property.
Due to the inability to control weather conditions. The river does rise out of its banks about 3 times a year. The exact time of this happening is unpredictable. When the river ascends out of its bank, no vehicles can get to the yurt. If this occurs prior or during your stay, you will receive a refund of the days you were not able to spend at the yurt. I will contact you as soon as it is apparent that the river my rise out of its banks.
Also, on the flip side, the river can be too low to enjoy the use of the kayaks. There will be no refund if this is the case. Usually the fishing is great at this time!
No pets
No smoking inside
No target shooting

Christmas trip
Cabin was perfect for the two of us. We enjoyed the peace and quiet. We would have liked it to be a little warmer so we could enjoy the porch and the river more. It was 16 degrees Christmas Eve. We definitely would return in the summer months so we could spend more time outdoors.

Great weekend visiting my son at Georgia Southern. Yurt was close enough that I could see him and far enough away so I could have some time to myself. Yurt is just as picture shows and so charming. I would caution to bring ear plugs or a white noise machine. The dogs on adjacent property barked all night - no fault of the yurt owners.

So peaceful
Looking for a get-away not far from home (coastal Georgia) for just a few days. This location was great. Always enjoy being near a river or lake. The Canoochee River is a pretty little winding river - a scenic view from the raised porch. Mid November weather meant cold mornings, so put on a jacket and sat on the porch with morning coffee. A good book, fishing in the river (yes, caught a few! ) and a trip to town for Claxton fruitcakes! Throughly enjoyed our stay.

Even better than expected. Beautiful, quite location. Enjoy coffee on the porch as you watch the river directly in front of you. Hostess gave perfect directions to get to this secluded cabin on a dirt road.

Labor Day Weekend
We had a blast this weekend! The cabin is awesome and has everything you may need. Communication with Mrs Duke was great! My boys swang from the rope swing and swam in the river. We fished from the bank and used the kayaks to go up and down the river. Will definitely be coming back!

Wanted to stay away from crowds and loved the cabin. We were happy with the cabin and wish it had not rained so much so that we could have used the kayaks. I would definitely recommend staying here for a family retreat or gathering.

Property Not Clean
I hate leaving negative reviews but I travel a lot and I’m accustomed to cleanliness! Let me begin by saying this property is not being cleaned and disinfected as stated. That alone is a MUST during this COVID-19 pandemic. Cleaning policy notes “Minimum 1-day vacancy between guest stays.” How can that be true when the guest book has an entry dated 12/24/20...the SAME day we arrived! More like a few hours of vacancy in between guest stays....We felt uneasy staying here. The bedding was dirty, dingy and brown. We slept on top of the covers because of this! Upon entry, this place didn’t smell fresh at all. Toilet paper wasn’t stocked. We had to buy some. The bathroom wasn’t clean; cobwebs in the ceiling. Heating is terrible! There are cracks in the walls and around the front door which allows cold air in. Appliances need to be updated. You have to turn on the dryer using pliers. There is expired food in the fridge! A piece of freezer burned meat was in the top of the fridge. There is food under the kitchen cabinets. Fridge and cabinets should be emptied after each stay. There is dried food on the kitchen utensils; so disgusting! We ended up using our own plastic ware. The water also went out for a short while. Social distancing was a bust when numerous teenagers staying in the next door cabin came to use the kayaks while we were trying to fish. We didn’t use the kayaks, though. Not sure how this place has all these positive reviews about being clean. I guess dingy and filth equates to “clean” for some people. This place isn’t my definition of clean during a pandemic by any means. Only good thing about this property is the owner put up a Christmas tree and other Christmas decor.

River Time
The house was wonderful and we had a great time on the river. We sat out by the firepit at night and kayaked during the day, the river was low so the kayaking was minimal, but we still enjoyed ourselves. Kimberly was very nice and friendly, check in was a breeze. We will hopefully be staying again soon. Thanks so much for allowing us to stay in your cabin.

We really enjoyed our stay. The creek was flowing beautifully and the fire ring was really a fun touch. The cabin is off a dirt road which is perfectly fine for normal cars. But make sure to pay attention.

Very enjoyable
We would like to thank the owners for being accommodating for our requests. The cabin is spacious, well decorated, well furnished and a nice layout. The river was up and made for a challenging kayak trip up river but short and sweet coming back down. We will be back, hopefully for Thanksgiving again. Well worth it for a fair price.
