We had a wonderful stay at Secret Garden Inn in Del Mar. We stayed in the two-bedroom suite, and it exceeded our expectations. The private balcony offered a beautiful ocean view and was the perfect place to relax with a morning coffee or unwind in the evening. The in-room hot tub was a great bonus and made our stay feel extra special. Breakfast was included and was absolutely delicious, with fresh, high-quality options that started each day on a great note. The property is charming, peaceful, and full of character, while the location is perfect—just a short walk to the beach, restaurants, and shops. If you’re looking for a relaxing coastal getaway with unique accommodations, beautiful views, and thoughtful amenities, Secret Garden Inn is an excellent choice. We would definitely stay here again!

The breakfast that was included was phenomenal. There was a Peruvian restaurant in the front and guest house type residences in back. They had a coffee station available. The rooms were unique and interesting. The bed was very comfortable. You can see some of the ocean from the balcony. There were many restaurants and shopping available to walk to and enjoy. My husband is an artist so he really loved the place and wants to come back and stay. He prefers this over a Hilton or typical hotel. I highly recommend staying here. We will be back.

Would stay there again!

This is a cozy little hideaway that I thoroughly enjoyed staying at. Location is excellent. And the included breakfast comes from an amazing little Peruvian restaurant. I would stay there again.

The location and privacy of this bohemian style inn make this a great stay in Del Ray. Steps from the best restaurants and yet totally quiet. Minutes to walk to the beach and parks. The staff was attentive but not on site (which added to the intimacy, like you had the place to yourself). Loved the self serve Kureg coffee bar, with organic coffee, plus wine glasses (I hate plastic cups). Parking and amazing/delicious full service breakfast were free, adding to the value. Style wise, it is eclectic- a mash up of fountains, plants, imported antiques, mosaic tile and quirky architectural details. That might not suit everyone’s minimalist aesthetic but we found it a relief from bland, generic hotels.

The location was great and the unique way that the grounds and room were decorated added to the enjoyment of the stay. Natana, who was our personal contact person if we needed anything was awesome.

Check in was pretty bad. Manager was not present and they did not know how to check us into SGI. (pls wait, while we figure it out, after 9 hour drive to get there) Breakfast, pre-paid, and highly touted, esp the coffee, was really weak. Two workers, and neither knew how to make coffee....'please make your own from your room', so no coffee. (none in the room either....shared maker that we could not figure out how to use) Room was 'unique', but very small/tight/sink in the bedroom. Decor very different and kind of cool. Overall, dissapointed esp for the price. All nice people, but poor value. And, pls note we never write negative reviews, as it just feels too critical for hard working people.

Overall it was a nice stay, but the floors and some of the surfaces in the room were a little bit dusty/not the cleanest. Really nice look to the room though and you get your own patio! Jetted bathtub was nice and the area around the hotel is cool too. The Peruvian restaurant is super good as well.

A unique and most quaint little Inn. Only four rooms nestled in a courtyard behind the equally quaint Peruvian Restaurant. Small but cozy. Breakfast was provided by the restuarant, the most delicious choices of eggs or empanadas. Friendly and welcoming owners. Highly recommend.

This hideaway is a gem. This place is beautiful, clean, quaint, and comfortable. There’s a balcony with a view of the ocean. Has a small tub/jacuzzi in the room. A coffee station is just outside the room. Secure parking is very close to the room. You won’t be disappointed.

Quirky

A quirky and unique hotel with some very good features, including location, but not clean enough. While there, a neghboring apartment complex was being roofed. Noise fro 7am to 5pm.

This place is a little hidden gem! You check in at their sister property, Les Artists Inn, and they show you the way to this property approximately 2 blocks away. It only has 4 rooms total. The vibe is a very Bali/zen type of decor. It is attached to a wonderful Peruvian restaurant where you get your FREE breakfast. Their empanadas are to die for! Don't forget to tip your chef!! He will take care of you! This place is in the heart of del mar within walking distance to all restaurants, shops, and the beach. We will definitely stay here again!!

There are just a few issues that if resolved could make this better. 1. The coffee bar was not stocked all the time. Breakfast was good but it would have been nice to have a cup of juice or mike with the meal. 2. The Microwave was broken. 3. One day we had no hot water. It was fixed not sure why it was a problem. All in all we had a good stay just need some finishing touches.

It is not what the pictures show

We stayed at this place during memorial day weekend for four nights, paid avg 259/night about 1200 total. First the good, the property is located at a higly walkable area with restaurants, parks, shops etc. One of the few places that had free parking and breakfast included. The bad, the rooms have eclectic decoration style, however the layout is very inconvenient for a multi night stay. The bathtub is inside the bedroom with a shower curtain separating the sleeping area and the shower. The ugly, the hotel did put any effort in cleaning the room before we reached the property. The bathtub and the sink had moldy stains, the entey way had spiders and cobwebs, the balcony was dusty withe dried leaves piled up. The worst of all the balcony curtains had red stains and moldy smell. The hotel didn't have onsite reception, we called housekeeping the next day after check-in for fresh curtains and bedsheets. Though we loved delmar we will opt for other places to stay next time for the rent we paid.

The room was in need of maintenance. Roofers were working the entire 3 days stay outside our 3 rooms. The jacuzzi in the suite above us went on each night at 10:30 or 11 pm when we desperately needed sleep. There was no one to call and ask for help then. In the morning, there was no creamer for coffee- except powdered cream. I called but none arrived for 4 hours. The Peruvian restaurant food was delicious in the restaurant that was in the building. We loved the breakfast. The hotel should have cost a lot less and had better service. Roofers working outside all day warranted a large discount and a warning. Too bad for us!
