The Property:
The home was built by Union Colonel Sion Bass, who commanded the Indiana 30th in the Civil War. The home is tastefully decorated with a Civil War theme, with pictures of Sion and his men. This is in the heart of downtown Fort Wayne, with a Starbucks in our backyard, numerous dining options in the vicinity, and activities in all directions.

Guest access:
Enjoy the common sitting/main gathering room on the main floor. We provide snacks, and a large refrigerator on the main floor for our guests to use. Free parking is provided on site right behind the building. Garbage cans are located behind 517 West Washington next door for you to put your trash in as needed.

Guest interaction:
Our family lives just blocks away, and loves all downtown has to offer. We stop in once a day to check the snacks and beverages. I am always available via the App messaging platform, and can be on property in minutes.

Neighborhood overview:
West Central downtown is a magical space where people with souls reside. Sure, you can grab a tan cookie-cutter spot out in the burbs and care about the lawn, but why would you? This is where history, art, and friends meet. The West Central Neighborhood encompasses all of downtown west of Calhoun Street, the heart of West Central is its urban residential area, the development of which began as early as the 1830s. Because of the historic and architectural significance of this area, the West Central Neighborhood was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and was designated as a Local Historic District as early as 1985.
The West Central Neighborhood was named the “Best Old House Neighborhood” in Indiana in 2010 by “This Old House Magazine.” The north side of the Neighborhood, along Berry and Wayne streets and Washington Boulevard, was where many of the City’s most prominent families built large, stylish homes. On the south side, situated between West Jefferson Boulevard and the former Pennsylvania Railroad tracks, exists a collection of modest, small-scale cottages arranged along narrow, tree-lined, brick streets. Many workers for the businesses and various industries stretching along the south side of the tracks resided in this area. The area opens into downtown, with restaurants, shops, and countless ways to get lost in the city. The Historic Sion Bass House straddles the edge of the neighborhood and downtown. You can be out the door and on an adventure in minutes.

Getting around:
Parking is steps away just in back of the building. We are on every major bus route in the city, and simply strolling distance to all downtown has to offer.

Other things to note:
In the summer, there is a large festival every single weekend. Our library is magnificent, and boasts the best genealogy department East of the Mississippi River (second in the nation, behind only Salt Lake City). The Barr Street Farmers Market every Saturday morning in the summer is a must see. You can be in the middle of everything in minutes.

Interesting property
An interesting propert. Definitely not the average you might expect, but very enjoyable. It is right downtown. The upper rooms could be difficult for older renters as the stairway is quite steep and narrow.

What a treat to spend time in a house built in 1942! The oldest dwelling in the U.S. I've ever slept in. The owner was thoughtful in instructions to customers. I think there is grandeur to the house, but also some shabbiness, and I think that just a little bit of money could do much to reduce the shabbiness. For example, my bedroom had a missing curtain. Many light bulbs weren't working. I wish there had been instructions for the jacuzzi. But don't get me wrong -- more power to you in keeping this incredible old house alive!

Nice property with easy check in/out
This place was great for our needs. The self check in and out worked well since we arrived late and left in the middle of the night. If we had been there for the genealogy studies then it would have been a perfect fit to keep the vibe up for that! Nice property, lovingly kept up and a historical gem.

Lovely historic hotel
We enjoyed the location being so close to the baseball field. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was lovely. We did get warm and were disappointed to see that the windows were unable to be opened.

Nice suite & close to everything
This is a nice building and a nice suite with classy furniture and decor. Bed is comfortable, and the two-person jacuzzi is wonderful! None of the windows in the suite can open, so we had some trouble getting a comfortable temperature, but the host bent over backwards to help us. Coffee and snacks are always available in the common area. Overall a great place to stay!

Perfect location for us
Older historic home in commercial area - Starbucks behind, Salavation army store across street. Ideal for our needs - we walked a couple blocks to go to Tin Caps game, a couple blocks to the Botanical gardens. We brought our bikes and it was a short ride to the river greenway and we also enjoyed riding through the historic neighborhoods. We walked to several excellent restaurants. Property needs some cosmetic updates - but nothing major or negative. Quiet, nice to have refrigerator in room and access to microwave. Owners are VERY responsive. Easy parking.

Nestled amongst the brick path in front of the house and alongside the house to the back, this house is convenient to all things downtown. I would recommend the Mc Culloch House.

Antique Hotel
Finding lodging on the east or southside of Fort Wayne is nearly impossible. Downtown hotels are fine but a little pricey. This place was unique, beautiful, near the southside of the city and well within my budget. The code access locks worked great, parking easy and the Starbucks next door is a plus.

Location, Location, Location!
My wife and I stayed here for our 35th wedding anniversary. We knew that we were going to have some champagne so we wanted to stay within walking distance of the restaurants downtown that we were going to celebrate in. This property is literally the closest property to everything that you can find. It is the first house that you come to while walking from the business/shopping/restaurants downtown into the residential section of downtown Fort Wayne! It is really close to the Tin Caps stadium (Parkview Field). The museums, botanical gardens, and theaters are just blocks away. Now the house--it is a Victorian era home. There are suites on two floors. The upper suites are accessed by a long steep staircase that these homes were often known for. If you have problems with stairs, stay on the first floor! We stayed on the second floor and enjoyed it! The keyless entry system is great! No fumbling for keys or checking pockets before you leave to be sure everyone has their keys. And of course, check out is a breeze with no keys to turn in! We only live 30 miles away in Huntington, but we had never just taken the time to be "tourists" in downtown Fort Wayne. We will do this again! The convenience of not having to drive home after a long day of sight seeing along with eating and drinking makes this property our new favorite in Fort Wayne!!

Perfect Place to Get Ready for Our Wedding Day
If I had one complaint, it would be that there was not enough airflow for 7 women and way too many curling irons and we got a bit warm. This property is beautiful and perfectly located downtown. The fact that it literally backed up to a Starbucks? A godsend. I don't even want to tell other people about it because I want all of my pictures to be unique and vintage and I don't want to share. It had the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in for a rental and the bathtub? Heavenly after a night of emotions and revelry. Plus, more than enough mirrors for everyone to check their lipstick five or six times. Stay here. You won't regret it.

Great visit in downtown Fort Wayne
My husband and I cannot say enough good things about our stay in this room! The room was located within walking distance from everything we wanted to do during our stay downtown Fort Wayne. The room is tastefully decorated for the time period, it was like living in history - yet it was awesomely modern because we had a flat screen tv, netflix and a Starbucks right behind us so we could walk out for coffees in the morning. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious - I wish we had more time to spend in the Jacuzzi. There was convenience access with the keys and door locks. One evening we came back to the room and were concerned because someone else staying in the house was listening to loud music; however, once we got into our room and closed the door we heard nothing from outside in the hall. Nice! We found Mike to be very easy to work with, and he always replied to my emails quickly and cordially. I highly recommend any room in this house for someone looking to stay in Fort Wayne!

Lovely historic home
This beautiful home is well situated near downtown in easy walking distance to great eateries, the Botanical Gardens and USF Performing Arts Center. Though it appeared that many of the rooms in the home were occupied, there was very little noise. I was even pleasantly surprised that Monday morning traffic noises didn't wake us up. I would definitely stay here again.
