Lund, British Columbia, is the northernmost town on the Sunshine Coast and is the terminus of Highway 101 which runs the from Vancouver. The highway incorporates 2 ferry crossings. It has a busy harbour and it is an access point to Desolation Sound & several offshore islands. It's a quiet place, out of the way and has a beautiful setting with the snow-capped peaks of Vancouver Island across Georgia Street on one side and the green rise of the Coast Mountains on the other. Not surprisingly then, it's a great place to relax if you're looking for some time in the great outdoors. #GreatOutdoors

The Lund waterwheel was built just upstream from here and used until electricity came to Lund, BC, in the late 1950s. In the late 1970s it was moved and rebuilt in its current location. Fishermen used it as a fish-gutting station. In 2005, the community got together and sold engraved planks to raise funds for rebuilding both the boardwalk and the waterwheel. In 2007, it became an information booth. More improvements were made to the waterwheel in 2017 and now the wheel turns when there is sufficient water in the creek. Located in Powell River, BC. When the U.S. entered WWI in 1917, they embarked on a program of shipbuilding to offset heavy losses to merchant shipping from German U-Boats. As steel plate was in such great demand, government support was given for the building of seagoing ferro-concrete ships. The WWII concrete ship-building program was more successful than its WWI counterpart. Construction was much stronger due to better cement and more steel reinforcements. Concrete bottoms, which eliminated condensation issues in steel ships, were well-suited for carrying dry cargo. These vessels handled well but were only capable of a maximum of 10 knots. All of the dismantled hulks were proud ships in their day - some fought battles of freedom, while others carried full cargoes along the world’s trade routes. In the late 1940s, after rust and rot holed many of the original steel ships, Macmillan Bloedel settled on the collection of concrete vessels as a more permanent solution to their breakwater dilemma.
