“The shower wasn’t working no pressure because it is a very old building they said so they couldn’t help or give us another room. Very dusty lots of cobwebs. However staff was so lovely beds were so comfortable and excellent location :))”
“Very spacious and clean single room. Equipped with fridge and a fan which were both very welcome on the extremely warm conditions. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is undergoing full refurbishment by dedicated owners. Extremely good value for money also.”
“It's ok if you just want a bed for the evening. Very tired throughout and needs a full refurb desperately. The reception was sketchy at best and often unmanned.
Don't bother with breakfast. It's not good
That being said, the bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean.
Shanklin itself is also run down. We used the hotel as a base for the scooter rally, so didn't spend much time there, although we did like The Falcon pub. A proper local boozer.

“The hotel is not very well appointed.
There was no internet connection in the room. Breakfast was served in a 45 minute window. There were cobwebs in the bathroom and the bed bases were torn and unsightly. We arrived around 6.30 and the front door was locked. There was a kettle in the room with no cups and saucers, no milk, tea or coffee. We had to collect them from the dining area/ reception. Tea tasted awful as it appeared perfumed and not breakfast tea bags. Didn’t bother with breakfast as……

Staff were excellent, helpful and friendly and the breakfast was tasty and plentiful.
A tiny fridge would be helpful in the room but over all we had a lovely stay at the Birdham. What a lovely part of the Island Bembridge is, in my opinion the nicest exception apart from the Needles. Bembridge has lovely quiet beaches to visit and we found the people very friendly.

“Very quick response to any of questions. Warm welcome and help getting my bag up the stairs as there is no elevator. I had rm 5 just for myself. I had enough space to lay out my bag for the night. There were enough outlets in the room but wish there was one by head of the bed. No ac, but there is a fan that cooled me off lots of on demand hot water in the shower. Quiet street and very easy walk to the beach. Close to streets that have plenty of restaurants.”

The staff were great, everywhere was clean and the ‘free’ breakfast was great. The issue with this property is basic maintenance. The shower was right next to the toilet where the water went straight onto the floor. The shower was very weak and took a long time to hear up. Even though there was a slight slope you would still get water around……
