About this property

Live a Piece of History at My Hilo Home

Enter the home onto the grand lanai (porch) which is fully screened in and offers a view of the manicured acre with Hilo Bay views in the distance. Through the front doors you'll be greeted by our huge living room. The original hardwood floors and plantation era architectural details are unique to Hilo homes from the 1920s and 1930s. This huge living area books on history and art of Hawaii, a large flat-screen TV, high-speed Wi-Fi internet and luxurious lounging area big enough for your whole family. NOTE: there are no TV channels so bring your streaming login info!

There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms in the home that are artfully decorated with historic representations of 'old Hawaii'. The kitchen at the back of the house is bright and full of windows to take in your Hawaiian landscape. The kitchen is fully stocked with anything you may need to cook a big meal or heat up your restaurant leftovers. Seating for 8 at the dining table and seating for 6 at the kitchen table with additional seating on the lanai.

My Hilo Home is planted with lots of tropical fruiting trees and plants. Enjoy juicy pineapples from our pineapple patch in summer months, tangy lychee from our ancient lychee tree in spring and citrus in the winter. There is also a breadfruit tree for those adventurous travelers who want to try a unique starch (please follow in-house instructions on preparing the difficult fruit!).

Four comfortable bedrooms line one side of the private home. Three of the bedrooms have queen size beds and the fourth has two twin beds (max occupancy is 8 guests). Each of the two bathrooms has a marble shower and one bathroom has a small bathtub. A pack-n-play is available for our guests with babies. The kitchen has an electric cook-top, electric oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and washer/dryer for laundry. All kitchen dishes and small appliances are available for your use. The house is immaculately cleaned between guests (at check-out) and mid-stay cleaning is an optional add-on.

This is a Hawaii County licensed short term rental.

Classic Hawaii

This house worked perfectly for our extended family vacation. The huge kitchen was great for many cooks working together and the grill and outdoor seating area was a valuable addition which we enjoyed immensely. We would stay here again. Sunrise and coffee on the lanai was a special quiet time for my husband and me before the rest of the crew got up. We loved this spot.

Time in Hilo

Great property with lots of space. The screened porch was the most used space. Lots of fruit trees on the property. Only a short distance to downtown with lots of shops and restaurant options.

Lanai lounging

It was a lovely house to spend nearly 2 weeks in. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here. We picked lots of fruit from the property, lounged on the lanai, and had fun watching the planes and geckos eating insects. The large yard was very nice to have young children use up some energy. The proximity to the downtown and beaches, while still being 'out of town,' was excellent.

Great location

We, a family of 8 (6 adults, two teens) loved the location from which it was easy to walk downtown. This house was built in 1926 and some things could use a little TLC. Around some of the handles on the kitchen cabinets it appeared dirty, There was peeling paint on the cabinet in the middle bath. In addition the hot water faucet at the sink in that same bathroom was nonfunctioning. Because of bugs in a damp climate guests are requested to seal all wet compost in a ziplock bag and store in the freezer, but no ziplocks were provided. For a group our size it would have been nice to have a large fry pan.

Peaceful paradise

My family loved staying here at this updated historic house. The grounds were majestic and looking outside of the kitchen window we were taken aback at the orchards surrounding us. The property manager also provided us boogie boards at no additional costs. Highly recommend.

Nice place but more essentials would be nice ie. Toilet paper, condiments, foil and the bbq was filthy and wouldn't heat up.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This is our second time staying at My Hilo Home. It's one of our favorite places on the Big Island. It's secluded and quiet but very close to town. The house is clean and comfortable and has everything you need for a wonderful stay in one of the best cities Hawaii has to offer. Would definitely recommend!

Family celebration

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: What a wonderful place to celebrate our daughters graduation from UH Hilo! The home was lovely with lots of space to spread out. Even the kitty (Ua) that lived at the back cottage was friendly and welcoming! On complaint would be the low quality sheets that kept sliding off the bed!

Amazing country property just behind downtown Hilo!

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Hilo is a quaint town and this home fits right in. It is a beautiful country home walking distance to downtown Hilo. There is soooo much good things to say about this property. First off we had 7 people in our party and it was very spacious with its 4 bedrooms, huge living room and huge screened in lanai. Some days we had our meals in the kitchen with a gorgeous view of Hilo Bay. Some days on the lanai enjoying the beautiful weather. We explored the huge backyard and found bread fruit trees, avocado trees and a papaya tree. Also, my dad uses a walker so nice that it had a ramp for him to get into the home and a handicap shower too. We will definitely be back to My Hilo Home!!!

Great old house

Spacious house full of character, built in 1926, located in a great area. Perfect for a large family. Lovely garden and fully equipped kitchen for home cooking. Please keep in mind that the house is from 1926, so it has some age-related features. I would recommend replacing the stovetop, as the old-style burners no longer fit properly into place, which can be inconvenient when cooking. However, there is a great new oven in the house, and we used it regularly.

Overall we were pretty happy with the property. Check in was smooth. The layout of the bedrooms is a little weird. The bedroom with the two twin beds requires you to have to walk through another bedroom to get to the bathroom. Nothing we couldn't get over. The kitchen sick had a leak coming from the inside the cabinet, but they got someone out pretty quick to take a look at it. The house is old and has a lot of charm. We loved the screened in porch. It was a great way to start the day. Would definitely stay here again.

Relaxing Hilo Stay

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Cute older home overlooking Hilo Bay. The house was a little stuffy when we first arrived, but we opened all the windows and never had to think about it again. The yard was great for the kids to run around, and the large kitchen was perfect for cooking some meals at the house. The pots and pans could use a refresh though. Overall, it was a great place to stay on the calmer side of the island.
