While touring through Québec’s picturesque Eastern Townships, visit the village of Knowlton in the town of Lac-Brome. This spot has been recognized by publications as being one of the prettiest areas in the province. Travel along the Wine Route to find this charming location.
The Wine Route covers a large area that extends into the United States. The region comprises six circuits, with Knowlton the closest to the 27-mile (43-kilometer) L’Axe Sutton, Lac Brome Route. On this route, enjoy vineyards and natural features in addition to Knowlton. Look for well-maintained hiking trails, ski areas, golf courses and a variety of freshwater sports.
Pamper your taste buds at numerous restaurants and cafés in Knowlton that feature the region’s selection of wines, cider and beer. The Townships Trail also meanders through the village along its 270-mile (430-kilometer) length. Experience the remarkably rich cultural area in the 31 towns and villages, each telling its history through interpretive spots along the trail.
During autumn, Knowlton is a popular leaf-watching location for the dazzling kaleidoscope of colors. Visit during winter when the area has winter wonderland beauty. A one-day outing on the nearby Winter Roadtrip route showcases the vines contrasting against pristine snow. Stop at one of the wineries or drop by a tea house or chocolatery for a comforting hot drink.
Breathe the fresh air, relax and shop for items at a lavender farm. Visit Lac-Brome Museum to learn more about the region’s history or attend an English or French cultural event at the Théâtre Lac-Brome. Follow the Coldbrook Trail down to the lake, Lac-Brome, and its beach. Centrally located Parc Coldbrook is an excellent place to start a self-guided tour of the village.
From Montréal, travel east about 60 miles (100 kilometers) to Knowlton along an excellent road or 25 miles (40 kilometers) north from the Vermont border. Choose any season you want to visit, as you’ll always find plenty to do.
