We’ve rented houses throughout the years from HCPL and normally have a great experience, but this one was subpar. The house itself was good, aside from the night the grill caught on fire and ruined our prime ribeyes. My BIL tried starting the grill earlier in the day and couldn’t get it started. We contacted management and they said the starter was broken and to manually light (the gas) grill. After that didn’t work they said they would send a tech out. The tech came out and told my 13 YO niece that he left the gas on to burn off all the excess grease and buildup. My BIL later went to grill our prime ribeyes, noticed it wasn’t even flaming up high, then all of a sudden it was filled with smoke and SET ON FIRE. Clearly the smartest move was to use a fire extinguisher, had to act fast since the grill is not even 2 feet from the back door…. We sent a detailed email and pictures to the management company to let them know what happened and to kindly ask to be reimbursed for our ruined steaks. All they have said is, it’s not there fault, it wasn’t dirty prior, they owe us nothing, and they aren’t willing to help in any way. Honestly I’m horrified at how they have chosen to respond. A fire hazard is not something to take lightly, and I’m pretty sure if the homeowners knew how this management company was choosing to handle this $60 request and situation, they too would be horrified. Think twice before renting here, would hate for anyone else’s vacation be ruined by lack of customer service and FIRE.
